So far, I’m kinda in love with this place. It’s nicely tucked away between the restaurants, beverage stores, and small shows in the area.
It’s small but they have a good selection of the things you NEED!
Right when you walk in you’ll see the Gimbap & Korean Fried Chicken, like in your face, which are like Korean sushi rolls. On your left side you’ll see marinated crabs and other seasoned traditional Korean dishes. I found my radishes and fish cakes there.
They sell a large variety of Asian snacks, noodles, rice (including the microwaveable kinds, like is it a Korean grocer without it?), meats, and veggies.
There’s also a wall of drink options. What’s better? If you walk in, you’ll hear lively conversations in Korean and it will feel like you’re physically in Korea even if it’s just for a minute. It’s nice to feel like you’re escaping the hustle and bustle of the city while you shop for groceries.
They accept credit cards and Apple Pay, which is becoming more common at local Asian grocers but not all accept everything so that’s a plus that I can walk in without having...
Read moreI bought 7 pieces of Onigiri (beef, tuna, kimchi), and ALL of them had mold on the rice, and they smelled very bad. This would have been my first time trying Onigiri, that's why I chose this Japanese store in Japantown because I expected them to sell fresh produce, well that is certainly not the case here… 35$ landed in the trash, very disappointed.
UPDATE: the owner replied to my review, calling it false. Disgusting behaviour. I’ve added screenshots of my credit card statement for the Onigiri purchases I made in the store. They can even look back the security cam footage proving I was there and purchased Onigiris. I was in the store on April 14th at 5:32 PM and April 19th 9:36 AM.
I couldn’t go back to the store to complain as I flew back to Europe on April 19th. I opened the Onigiris on April 20th. Before buying them, I explicitly asked the cashier about the best before date, as no expiration date was indicated on any of the onigiris. He said they don’t have an...
Read moreMarch 2025 update: seriously BAD music volume. It’s impossible to shop when the music plays at such loud volume and the music chose is hectic club style music. Do they not consider their customers? Who is this noise even got??!!!
I still want to support this Korean supermarket but I am downgrading the original 5 stars ! A well stocked Korean grocery store with a really good selection of ingredients to make your own kimchi or buy their's. (If you buy their's: it is salty and lacks depth of flavour, an easy fix: a spoon of fish sauce, a spoon or few of Korean chilly flakes, chopped ginger and spring onions and you are already on your way to a yummy side dish. It IS great to buy the kimchi that they make as a starter for your own personalised one.)
We love how many ready to eat options they have in the fridge.
Service is always spot on fast and efficient. And generally friendly.
Highly recommended. Best Korean grocery shop in San Francisco...
