My boyfriend and I made our way to San Francisco for Christmas holidays we and found ourselves quite thirsty after walking for hours site seeing that we decided to hit up Boba Guy's Fillmore location since we've heard LOADS about them on social media from other millennials+trending hipster boba place. We ordered a Matchata ($6) and a coconut green tea ($5.5). Coconut green tea wasn't bad, in fact I quite liked the flare of coconut flavor fused into the green tea, it was the strongest flavor that presented itself and also gave it a nice nuttiness to it. Although coconut aspect was good, I found the green tea part VERY bland and watered down, no hint of the bitterness that I enjoy normally in my green tea. Disappointing. The boyfriend unfortunately did not enjoy his Matchata (and he LOVES matcha and horchata on their own). He found the two flavors very strange and did not meld well together in one drink.
Also, just a personal thing, I find their store hours a little too wonky and inconsistent. Not a huge fan of having two different opening times and THREE different closing times. LOL.
Not to mention they're also expensive for what they sell, close to $15.00 after tax and tip for TWO drinks. Would I go out of my way to go to Boba Guys again? Sad to say, but probably not. Their menu and taste doesn't match up with my own tea preferences (call me more of a traditionalist when it comes to tea taste) and much better left to people who enjoy sweet stuff, less bitter teas as well as interesting and outside the...
Read moreI really liked this Boba Guys location. It's right next to the Japan Center, so if you're in the area you can spend a day doing both places easily.
It's much bigger than the other SF location I've been too, but not as safe as their LA location. (I say safe but no one was hurt while I was there... They did have to kick some threatening people out though.) Whereas the LA location I visited had seating inside and out and the area seemed fine. But I guess that's SF in general.
The drinks were amazing of course! I went with 5 of my friends and everyone ordered something different. Majority of them were boba virgins, so I gave them advise on ordering to their tastes.
There was a massive line right after we ordered, but our drinks came out quick! There were about five staff on, so maybe they were anticipating a rush during that time of day.
I enjoyed seeing their new eco friendly straws and trying their branded USA boba... The whole experience was great! It would def go back here again if I'm ever in the area, especially as there was plenty of seating inside and the staff seemed really friendly.
Oh and next time I will leave space in my stomach to try some of their food as it looked very tasty.
Keep up the good...
Read moreThe service is fast, the taste of the tapioca pearls is quite good,
-The black cesame tea is underrated and almost nobody usually asks for it which is a pity because it has a unique flavor, although it has a touch of ginger a little too strong which is not for everyone.
-The horchata is very good with the tapioca pearls but it doesn't have as much cinnamon as I would like.
-The tea thai from this place is probably one of the best I've ever tasted and I don't understand why more people don't talk about it (I don't know if it's powder base but it felt very natural to me).
-The strawberry and matcha tea is a bit sweeter but probably adapted to the tastes of San Francisco people since besides the sweet pearls and milk it has a bit more strawberry jam with sugar but it is a very delicious and unique proposal and a must try.
I would love to see the black sesame with a colorful twist, because I don't think it gets the love it deserves, a great...
