On a recent bacchanalian weekend in the Bay we decided we needed a break from the rich, heavy food we’d been eating and opted for something healthier. A nearby neighborhood Mediterranean spot fit the bill as we all agreed that hummus is healthy enough.
About an hour before closing we arrive to the cook on break facetiming and the cashier/server quick to tell us they are closing in 10 minutes. Figuring we had plenty of time to order and eat we opted for dine in.
The shwarma was tender, could use a little more seasoning, it was moist from the marinated pre spit. The fluffy rice was a nice base contrast to the salad, yes I ate the salad. The green dressing which I could not quite figure out was bright, plenty of citrus rind and lemon juice, but a green ingredient I could not place. Heavy on the onions I placed most of it aside. Pita was separate and a must to go with the creamy hummus, nothing crazy on the flavor of that, but the way I figure it hummus is like a vegetable, at least I think it gives fiber, idk. It’s better than the usual stuff I eat. Tri tip was even more tender and juicy, another great platter choice. Pita bread was quick fire warmed on the grill, but came from a package and not made in house. Something was very off about the tomatoes in the salad, no brightness, no acidity and not juicy. No olives either and light on the feta. The portions were pretty good, thought I might have really just gotten the wrap and an order of hummus instead of the combination which included just some hummus. Thinking back on it I would have gotten a wrap with rice, fries, hummus, but that’s just me craving a burrito all the time.
The seating set up is tight, including the tall seats around the windows. There is this pole in the middle of the store that disrupts everything. Décor is sort of like a less corporate Garbanzo’s. The floor was greasy and they could use some new silverware. Price for a combo and Mexican coke was just under $15 which wasn’t bad, but again this was the healthiest I ate this trip, in terms of style, portion, price.
I’ll give them one more try next visit now that I’m better prepared, but besides speed, price, convenience and Mediterranean being healthy, they have a lot to...
Read moreThis was the was time we went there and ordered full size Greek salad which should have lettuce, tomatoes, onions, karamata olives, pepperoncini, feta cheese and mint cucumber dressing, we paid almost 8 dollars for it but when we came home and opened the box it had more then half box full of lettuce two pieces of tomatoes barely onions one spoon of feta cheese and no olives no pepperoncini at all and barely any dressing . I was so surprised because they don’t have salad bar or something where I would be able to see what they are putting in my order and I called the guy I think he is the owner what he told me of course it is a salad and he pays 60 dollars for one box of lettuce which is not my problem either he should charge more or give proper proportions in his salad and he said we were out if pepperoncini but didn’t bother to tell me that time when I was there waiting and olives they forgot to put so this was the first and last time it’s better to buy nice lettuce bunch and eat at home then paying 8...
Read moreI usually enjoy this place when I go with my coworkers as a large group. But today I bought a kefta kabob wrap on my own and they really cheated on the order. They basically gave me lavash bread stuffed with hummus. I had 3 tiny pieces of kabob, 1 half tomato slice, and 1 small cucumber slice. I never complain at restaurants but if I hadn't ordered the wrap to go and already left, I would have spoken up. Especially considering I saw the gentleman working there eating his own pita wrap that was loaded with ingredients. While I don't expect the same for a customer, I do expect what I paid for. And this was certainly unreasonable for my order. I'm not returning with or...
