ooo Oh yeah this place was gas !!!!!!! spent $100.. but worth it!
EXPERIENCE: we came in 11am saturday on labor day weekend and thankfully came right before the noon rush bc woww that line was out the door after we ordered. Parked like a 1min walk away in the ParkSJ garage, free for 90 min. Our entire stay (we ate inside too) was about 1 hr, so didnt have to pay. As soon as we stepped inside, we were surprised at how warm and inviting it felt. Great atmosphere and decor. Super cool that the menu was inspired by the owner’s child/children, loved the baby pictures on the wall. After we ordered, we were lucky to immediately find an open table. The wait wasnt that long for the food + drinks.
We ordered take out but ended up eating inside! They do have proper plates if you order dine-in.
STAFF: patient and helpful!
the tall guy who took our order was patient while we floundered around with our order and answered our questions about the menu as much as he can. Didnt rush us even though there was a line behind us, and lightheartedly laughed with us when I balked at the total price.
the guy with the cool piercings who gave us our order was really nice too! in our big order there was only 1 mistake, which was that the iced matcha cloud had normal matcha foam instead of the turon cream that we replaced it with when ordering. the guy took the drink back and fixed it immediately and fast which was great!
FOOD: Wow. Umm so good yeah. Please look at the pictures, but the pictures dont do it justice.
We got: Fruit sando Longanisa sando Avocado toast Potato tostones Iced yuzu sweet tea Iced matcha cloud with turon cream Iced dirty hojicha latte with peanut butter cream Ube scone Pandan mochi cake Hojicha polvoron
…you can see how I spent $100 now. Technically for 3 people, me and my cousin just ate our share in the bakery.
Everything was so good and I love all the filipino flavors and fusions.
Fruit sando - had strawberries, so light, fluffy, brings out the softness of the shokupan, toasted almonds on the sides make it amazing. 10/10
Longanisa sando - filling, stacked with eggs, longanisa with cheese is new to me but still good, missing a kick, added hot sauce from the bar and it got even better. 7.5/10 no hotsauce 9/10 hotsauced.
Avocado toast - i didnt try this one, it was for my girlfriend. But she said it was good! 10/10
Potato tostones - 10/10/10/10!!! so crunchy, crispy, so many packed into one box, soft on the inside. Even better hotsauced. 10/10 no hotsauce 11/10 hotsauced.
Iced yuzu sweet tea - sweet, not overwelmingly acidic, like a splash of lemon! 10/10
Iced matcha cloud with turon cream - Literally like a banana cream matcha latte, but smoother, creamier. Really yum, but my cousin didnt finish it. 9/10. Iced dirty hojicha latte with peanut butter cream - I had no problem finishing this. Dirty hojichas are my favorite drink and I was happy to see this on the menu. The peanut butter cream made it even better to me, it was rich and heavy, but I get if some people arent a fan. 10/10/10 coming back for it.
Ube scone Pandan mochi cake Hojicha polvoron
I cant fairly rate the pastries because I let them sit and tried them end of day, and the mochi made the other two soft. But they were still good and I want to try them again one day! Pandan mochi cake is definitely #1 for now.
OVERALL: awesome!!! cool place ! great food! i want to get the classic shokupan next time but they were sold out by 11am 😢 anyways Im coming back for you...
Read moreI got these via DoorDash! It seems like it's also possible to order through their own website. Everything is good! I love their interesting sourdoughs. Of course they taste like sourdough, but they look pretty and I felt that the ube sourdough had a sweet scent when I toasted a slice at home. Their breakfast toast is a pile of HEAVEN!! A little spicy and lemony, with a nice thick slice of bread. I got it with the sesame sourdough, I loved the seeds with that one. Very shareable portion. The potato tostones are shareable by 2-3 people too. They have a bit of a kick but they're absolutely delicious, smashed potatoes with the soft inners and crisped edges. The crab sandwich was amazing especially with the lemon squeezed on. I had my doubts about American cheese paired with crab, but honestly that really pulled it together with its salty smooth creaminess. And don't be fooled by the photo thinking it's some kinda wonderbread sized sandwich... Nah, it's a BIG sandwich! Their bread is lovely and soft. As for the chocolate strawberry toast, I think that's something you could make at home so I'd recommend just buying a loaf of the bread, which I also did! That said, it was tasty and the sweetness plus sourdough was surprisingly good. It was a thick slice of toast so, again, could be shared. The ube scone was nice and not too sweet, not a strong ube flavor but it was tasty! Overall everything I've tried so far has been good, I'm definitely going to explore the menu a...
Read moreCutest small business in town! We have followed Milk Belly since their ghost kitchen across from SSA building to now that they have their own store. Such a full circle moment and we are happy that their dream came true!
Milk Belly is a nice stop for all your bakery, brunch, breakfast, quick snack, quick stop's needs! VTA bus stops right in front of the store. If you drive, 25S Third Street garage is your best parking bet. They provide 90 minutes free parking and the garage is only 2-3 minutes walk to Milk Belly.
No matter what time you come, expect a line. And let the line speaks for how amazing Milk Belly is! Staff were prompt take our order though so the line moved relatively quickly.
There are nice wooden tables against the banana-leaf-wallpapered wall. Some stools so you can observe the owner/chef preparing your food. I love the rustic red-brick walls and the little corner in the front, right by the windows, where you can sit at some of the few high chairs and tables. The store gives a warm and welcoming ambience.
We always order a lot home and love their breads. Today we decided to sit down and enjoy our Longanisa and Egg/spam/ham sando sandwiches. They're delicious with generous amount of eggs which were made to perfection!
I'm glad Downtown San Jose now has Milk Belly as its permanent tenant. Highly recommend you check out this family-owned small business if you...
