Looking for a place not as upscale as say, Alexanders, but pricey enough that I would feel like I was getting a decent steak. I was SORELY disappointed here.
I ordered the Wagyu (think it was $45 of a 6 oz.) and a side of steamed broccoli. There was absolutely no seasoning on the steak or the broccoli and the broccoli was still raw. The steak was cooked appropriately, but I've had Wagyu and the claim that this was Wagyu seems dubious to me. It seemed like a piece of cheap steak that, if it were well-seasoned, might have hid the fact that it wasn't Wagyu. Makes sense considering the price. The Wagyu I'd had before was significantly more expensive. The Chimichurri Sauce on the side was good and made the steak edible, so I did finish the steak. I didn't touch the broccoli.
My wife ordered the New York Strip. Again, no seasoning at all. She didn't care for the Chimichurri, so she didn't eat her steak at all. We wound up giving it to a homeless person outside. She got a side of shrimp with it that she said was decent, but for the price, she'd rather eat at Sizzlers. The French Fries she got on the side were actually outstanding. Perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and soft inside.
The environment consisted of seat upholstery on its last legs and paint peeling on walls. A little care into the decor might make me feel like I was a steakhouse.
Finally, the servers were nice - very nice. They were pleasant to talk to. The host at the door seemed as though he did not want to be there and strained to give us a smile or even a nod. When I stepped in, I asked for a booth for two people and he stared at me for a good ten seconds before I said I was ready to be seated and he ushered me to two booths telling me to pick the one I wanted.
Overall, not worth the price. We spent $120 on lunch with the tip and apart from my soda and my wife's water, the images are all we got (mind you, once we were done eating, so my steak isn't actually on the...
Read moreRok had some really great things about it, but also some not so great things. Great service. Ambiance matched some of the items on the menu, but for the price of their steak was a little off. Happy hour is everyday from 2-7, but only outside or at the high top tables. We were a little disappointed we couldn't get the happy hour beverages in the main dining area since it was not busy at all.
We came around 5:30pm on a Friday and got seated right away (only 2 other tables seated). Server came over right away and explained the menu. We decided on the charcuterie plate for an appetizer. There was generous portions of meat, fruit, and cheese (could feed 3-4 people, although the 2 of us ate it all), but they went a little skimpy on the crackers and jam/nuts/olives. The menu also said there would be vegetables and pickles, but not sure what on the plate counted as those items.
Since we got a large appetizer we split an 8oz Rok filet with French fries and green beans. The French fries came out really cold and looked like they had been sitting out for a long time. We asked for new ones and they were freshly cooked, but a little underdone. The green beans were very garlicky (if you like garlic you will like these). The rok method for cooking was very novel. You start with a raw piece of meat and get to cook it how you like. The meat was super juicy and had great flavor. However at any of these cook your own places, I ended up with overdone pieces and I forgot about cooking while in conversation and ended up with some well done piece and had no one to blame.
We also added on shrimp to our meal and will never do so again. It is a typical easy upsell item, but the shrimp were small considering it was $10.50 for 5 shrimp.
3 stars for the inconsistency in food temperature, menu descriptions, and ambiance considering the price we paid (higher than I would...
Read moreI have been a fan of the Sunnyvale location since it first opened and was really looking forward to a special meal at this location tonight.
The night started out well. Our food came relatively quickly and was tasty even though I felt the salad had way too much dressing. However, the entrees were both missing things we had asked for and we had to wait for someone to come check so we could get those items. That was no big deal, we made it work.
Then when we were done we sat there for 10 minutes waiting for someone to come and check on us. Our plates were empty and stacked in front of us and there were only 3 tables of people in the whole place. Finally a girl came to clear the plates so I asked her to tell the server or someone that I wanted a Creme Brulee to go. She said ok and disappeared. We then sat there for another 15 minutes waiting for our dessert and check so we could leave. No waiter came, the manager didnt come, the girl didnt come. Finally the waiter came and asked if we wanted anything else. Apparently the girl hadn't bothered to tell anyone that we wanted the Creme Brulee. So we had been sitting there for no reason.
There is no bigger pet peeve than having to sit for almost 30 minutes AFTER finishing a meal waiting to pay for the meal so we could leave.
The server put a rush on the dessert and finally brought us the dessert and the check but didnt apologize and didnt offer any discount for the wait. We spent over $100 there and had horrible service.
So I give the food 5 stars but remove 3 stars for the really...
