Pickup is from a an external bar window where you don’t enter the bar. This may change after 5pm but I cannot say.
Ordered at 3:10pm, earliest pickup was 4pm. So make sure to order an hour ahead and don’t expect it to be a sit around and wait.
The internet told me this is the best place in the Bay Area along with Cicero’s and State of Mind. Local reception is great for this place.
Went to the external bar window to pick up pizza at 4:00, was ready at 4:04. Lady was friendly and let me know the wait time and called name loudly when it was ready.
For the pizza, it is a sweeter tomato sauce, the pepperonis were a bit saltier than I like but good flavor. Cheese was good as well. Texture of the crust was good and taste was up to par.
Only issue I had, was the stiffness from the base of the pizza to the tip was polarizing. I much preferred the stiffness of the base compared to the tip. There was a noticeable bend about halfway down the pizza slice where it flopped down dramatically where the other side stayed more firm.
Made it harder to eat and I wish there was more of a consistency in flopiness between each end of the slice.
Another thing was the pizza was more oily than most pizzas I ate. This may be a problem for some people, but it’s nothing a good napkin won’t fix.
Finally, the price might be a headscratcher for some. I understand the quality of ingredients used is high quality and the location in downtown San Jose are big factors, but I’ve had downtown pizzas with great reviews in major downtown cities like Miami and New York that have more “reasonable” prices. You’re looking at $18+ dollars here for a 12 inch pepperoni. Typical cities of highly rated pizza spots I’ve been too will charge you less for a 14-16 inch.
Overall I give it a 4/5 for the reasons listed above. I would reccomend it, but order ahead of time and...
Read moreSlice of Homage in San Jose offers what many consider the best pizza in town, rivaled by only one other spot. The quality of the pizza is truly exceptional—every bite delivers a perfect balance of flavor, texture, and freshness that sets it apart from the competition. If you’re searching for a top-tier pizza experience, this is the place to try.
However, the pricing reflects its premium quality, as many reviewers, myself included, find it expensive for what you get. While the service is generally good, the experience is hindered by operational inefficiencies. There’s typically only one staff member managing everything from answering phones to ringing up orders and greeting customers. While their efforts are commendable, it does lead to longer waits and a diminished overall experience.
Cleanliness is another major drawback. The tables, floors, and counters often appear neglected, which is disappointing given the high standards set by the food. This issue detracts from the otherwise charming ambiance of the location.
Speaking of the location, it’s both a blessing and a curse. The downtown spot is fantastic, but parking is a nightmare. Although there’s a parking garage nearby offering 90 minutes of free parking, it’s not convenient for quick pickups, which can be frustrating.
Overall: • Quality: 5/5 • Return Value: 3/5 • Cleanliness: 1/5 • Time to Be Served: 3/5 • Time to Be Acknowledged: 5/5 • Parking: 0/5
While the pizza itself makes Slice of Homage worth visiting, the high price point, cleanliness issues, and parking challenges mean it might not be a regular stop for everyone. If you’re willing to look past these drawbacks, you’re in for some of the best pizza San Jose...
Read moreI came in Sunday at around 6pm. We ordered a New York 14" pizza + a Calzone. We were initially estimated it would be done in about 25 minutes or so. Two fellas after us came in and ordered maybe about 5 minutes after we ordered (keep this in mind rest of the review). We are waiting, there are a lot of upset people hounding the one girl at the counter about their order. Me and my girlfriend were trying be polite because we work in customer service before and know how busy it can be. We check in again about 35 minutes after we placed order - we are told another 15 minutes. Then, I noticed the two guys that ordered after me and my girlfriend have walked in and received the orders. It has now been a hour and I was barely getting my order. We ordered a New York and both parties after us ordered Detroit there is no reason they should have got their order before us as the crust is thinner for our orders.
Overall, I felt bad for the girl at the counter because she was catching all of the negative emotions from all the customers. Your founder Steven B should really learn how to run a business smoothly. If you got that many upset customers in a day you should evaluate your staffing because you were obviously insanely understaffed on a weekend. You should give your customers honest estimates instead of giving everyone a default "10 more minute answers." You are just pissing people off more.
P.S. the food was not worth the wait and is mediocre at best. Will advise people I know not to waste their time here since it...
