Zona Rosa, one of San Jose's most captivating culinary experiences.
Alright folks, gather around, because we're heading over to Zona Rosa, one of San Jose's most captivating culinary experiences. Nestled on The Alameda, this restaurant is not just about food and drink; it's about creating an atmosphere that pulls you in and keeps you coming back for more. So, let's dive into what makes Zona Rosa tick.
First up, the ambiance. When you step into Zona Rosa, you're transported to a hacienda-like atmosphere that oozes warmth and comfort. The restaurant has a delightful laid-back vibe that makes you want to kick back, relax, and enjoy the experience. The staff is nothing short of delightful, offering friendly service that adds a personal touch to your dining experience.
The food at Zona Rosa is Mexican with a twist. It's a fusion of traditional Mexican dishes reinterpreted in unique and creative ways. The chefs have given a fresh spin to age-old recipes, resulting in dishes that are incredibly delicious and different from anything you've tasted before.
If you're a fan of brunch, Zona Rosa has got you covered. They've got a unique twist on chilaquiles, serving 'em up with guajillo sauce, scrambled eggs, queso fresco, and pico de gallo. If you're after something sweet, then check out their blue corn banana pancakes with candied pecans, piloncillo syrup, seasonal fruit, and crema - I mean, how good does that sound?
You want to talk about starters? Their guacamole is a game-changer. I mean, guacamole with bacon and pistachios? Yes, please! It's a must-try according to folks who've been there.
And, let's talk about their dinner dishes for a second. I recommend their enchiladas, are really amazing. If you're a seafood lover, you cannot miss their Pesca del Dia, which features the blackened fish catch of the day served with cabbage and cilantro. The spiciness of the blackened fish contrasted with the crunch of the cabbage and the freshness of the cilantro is a treat to your taste buds.
And now, for my favorite part – the spirits. Zona Rosa boasts a wide range of tequilas and mezcales, ensuring that there is something for everyone. Their handcrafted cocktails are truly a class apart. For those who love tequila, the variety on offer is impressive, each brand carrying its unique flavor profile and origin story. If mezcal is more your speed, you're in luck. Zona Rosa's mezcal selection is a wonderful mix of smoky, fruity, and earthy notes that are sure to please your palate.
But what's a drink without a good cocktail to mix it with? Zona Rosa's cocktails are crafted with precision and care, each one a delicate balance of flavors designed to complement the spirits they're mixed with. The hibiscus margarita is a standout, offering a refreshingly sweet and tangy flavor that pairs beautifully with the rich Mexican dishes.
Zona Rosa's commitment to using fresh ingredients and their dedication to crafting dishes and drinks by hand is a testament to their passion for delivering a high-quality dining experience. They offer a variety of weekly specials, new menu items, and cocktails, ensuring that there's always something new and exciting to try.
Despite all the delicious food and drinks, perhaps what stands out most about Zona Rosa is the overall experience. From the moment you walk in to the time you leave, everything about this place feels special and unique. Whether it's the beautifully prepared food, the expertly crafted drinks, or the warm and friendly service, it's clear that Zona Rosa is a place that takes pride in creating a memorable dining experience for every guest.
To sum up, Zona Rosa is more than just a restaurant; it's a place where you can enjoy great food, drink, and atmosphere, all under one roof. If you're in San Jose and looking for a place that serves up a memorable dining experience, Zona Rosa should be at the top...
Read moreCame here around 6:30pm on a weekday. Plenty of parking across the street if you can't find it right in front of the restaurant. We had reservations for teo but there was no wait without one anyway.
This was one of the most colorful meals I've ever had. I'm not sure if they designed their environment and dishes with Instagram in mind but it sure works well for cameras. I'd say this is equal parts tequila bar, equal parts Mexican-American fusion. Some of the dishes were "out there" for sure.
The restaurant manages to fit in a lot of people but there was something about our table that felt cramped.
Chips and dip - It's not free here, you got to order it for $6. These dips felt experimental and I honestly couldn't tell what was what. They were all cold, like chilled. I liked the smokey one but the others fell flat for me.
Guacamole - It's a LOT of guac. We didn't manage to finish. I'm not sure how many avocados go in here but it was nice and textured. I'd just say it needs to be more seasoned with salt.
Chile Relleno - I wish there was more rice in this and less beans. It was meat heavy, and I'm not complaining. The pepper actually had a kick to it. I enjoyed the butternut squash. I wish it was a bit more savory; it needed more salt and seasonings, especially when the meat's flavor didn't come through.
Carne Asada - Like everything we got here, the presentation was beautiful. I liked that it was a twist on a really popular dish.
Margaritas - We got 4 drinks and they were all tasty. The "spicy" drinks had a kick but it wasn't too bad.
Dessert - The warm buñuelos were nicely dusted in sugar + went so well with the horchata ice cream! It had a subtle pumpkin flavor. Wish it was a bit bigger to share.
The service was really nice. I'd say this is a really nice spot for brunch and date nights. It's not what I'd think of when I'm craving Mexican food because the flavors are more American fusion, but it's definitely a nice occasion just to eat here.
Extra perk: The bathroom was so clean and smelled amazing. I loved the candle and...

Went to the Alameda for lunch and stumbled upon this place. Turns out that we were there on DAY ONE of lunch service. Seated at a lovely copper topped sidewalk table in the dappled shade, ahhhhh!
Started with the housemade Sangria Clara. Not on the lunch menu but we asked and they served us. I had tried it on a Wine Walk thru the Alameda and knew it to be good. It's a very light and fresh version featuring protocaoio blanco, garden peaches with apples and oranges. Mexican spices which I think would be a combo of cinnamon and nutmeg?, mint and sparkling cider. Not overly sweet. Great for a warm afternoon.
We ordered the Guacamole, Dressed. Avocado, jalapeno, cilantro and lime. Dressed means they add crispy bacon crumbles and roasted pistachios, a capital idea!
So many good things to try on the menu, my friend and I decided to do some splitting! The Cesar salad, romaine, roasted corn, dry jack cheese, avocado, jalapeno vinaigrette + blue corn topoto. VERY nice and light. Not the usual heavy dressing you find on most Ceasar salads. Made a nice size starter salad split. You can order it with protein and it would be a great entree!
The Carnitas Club, what can I say? This torta (sandwich) is probably on of the most delicious decadent things I've ever tasted. Slow roasted pork, niman ranch bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, olive oil mayo, pecan walnut bread. $11 Not sure how on earth I could have eaten the entire thing. It was a nice sized sandwich and very rich. Made a great split.
Our server was very nice and really knew her food. She apologized for the fact that "the kitchen was a little slow getting up to speed on lunch". We did not think that the food came slow at all! Good quality like that takes a little time! We were in and out within an hour or so. ...
