I visited this hidden gem with friends on a Thursday night and my experience there was simply fantastic. I am OBSESSED with the “Mulé Mule” tha the wonderful Vanessa prepared for me. I ordered the “Veal & shrimp in coco salsa” dumplings. It was like having an explosion of flavors all at once, perfect texture, decadent light coconut flavors and the most tender veal, that just melts in your mouth. My friend ordered the “Eggplant hummus with vianda chips” and if you’re like me and anticipated wrongly that it be a watery mess because of the eggplant, let me say that I was exquisitely wrong and delighted. The chips were perfectly crunchy and the hummus was hands down the BEST I’ve ever had. We also tried the “Asian chicken wings” that were perfectly cooked, had an amazing flavor and will definitely make you lick your fingers. If you’re looking for an authentic Puerto Rican dish, do yourself a favor and ask for the “Carne frita, majado de viandas, veggies.” It’s an elegant twist to the traditional “carne frita” but with bed of “viandas” that simply pair together perfectly. I promise you that every bite will simply fill your heart and belly with joy. If you want to try a dish more on the Asian side, the “Beef Ho Fun,” has a size good enough to share, though once you try it, you may get greedy and tell your friends to get their own. It’s seriously, that good! For dessert Chef Moraima surprised us with an amazing “flan” accompanied by a sorbet made of local mangoes and a special “café con ron” that Vanessa prepared for us. If you LOVE spicy food, ask for the “pique” that she will give you on the side.
La Chefi’s is not only a restaurant. It’s a safe place that gathers wonderful people of all sorts of life to talk, enjoy the pleasure of divine food, cocktails and stories shared by all of us who value connections and people.
Even though the power went out for a bit while we were there, NOT ONE of all of the large group of people that were there, left. Christian, one of our servers lended us good old hand fans, cold beers and excellent service. All of us that were there started talking among us and later joined tables and ended up making a large gathering that was made from people that started as strangers, to friends thanks to this wonderful place. Read moreI recently visited La Chefi in San Juan the day after Christmas with my wife, and it instantly became our new favorite restaurant in the city! We were initially drawn in by the abundance of five-star reviews—and after trying it ourselves, we completely understand why.
The restaurant’s ambiance is welcoming and beautifully curated, creating a perfect setting for an unforgettable meal. The menu is incredibly enticing; even if you’re not hungry, you’ll soon find yourself tempted by all the delicious options. Since my wife and I love exploring new cuisines and flavors, we decided to order several small plates to share:
Two versions of dumplings (one with spicy ponzu-glazed pork, and the other with veal and shrimp in a coco salsa). Spicy Asian wings—perfectly seasoned with just the right kick. Cabrita mango chutney fried wontons—a unique, sweet and savory treat. Chicharrones de pescado—so flavorful and absolutely addictive. Every dish was balanced in flavor, exquisitely prepared, and bursting with taste. Our server—who may also be a part owner—was incredibly friendly and contributed to the overall fantastic vibe.
The five-star reviews don’t lie: La Chefi truly deserves every bit of praise. If you’re looking for an exceptional Asian fusion experience in San Juan, don’t miss out on this gem. We’ll definitely...
