We spent a half day at the beach before going into old San Juan for the late afternoon. Giving its closeness to the city center, this beach is surprisingly nice, plenty of inexpensive parking spaces, the restrooms are conveniently located. The beach is dotted with palm trees that provide plenty of shaded spots (this is somewhat unique for Puerto Rico that every beach we visited all have a plenty of shade and we never needed an umbrella), the blue and green water with waves crushing outside the barrier rock formation, it was stunningly beautiful. The snorkeling was surprisingly good, especially towards the left side (facing the sea) along the rocks, plenty of large fishes made us feel that there were more fish than we encountered at Hanauma Bay in Hawaiiâmainly because of how easy it was to get to them. The right hand lagoon had smaller fishes. After relaxing lying on the beach under the palm trees for a while, we decided to explore a little bit further along the beach and realized that when you drive in further from the large parking lot, the end of the drive (within a few minutes of walk) is a marine park. The stadium and other buildings seemed to have suffered bad damages from hurricanes so they do no longer possess their past shines we could imagine; at the end of the drive is a bay facing the high rises of the city, that is a scene you could not see from the beach section we sat at earlier. Several tour companies provides snorkeling tours in this protected bay enclosure, although there arenât as many fishes as what we saw at the other section of the beach, here you have turtles! By swimming following the crowd, we found the turtles. Giving its conveniency to reach and use, the variety of features it offers, the view and swimming safety, I give it a five star, recommend it over all other beaches if you are on a short...

Read moreThis is great for snorkeling! Very calm in comparison to the waves seen outside the rock wall. Great shallow beach for kids too. It gets deeper when you go out pretty far.
We went twice and saw a sea turtle both times! The beach to the north of the bay is a better place to play in sand and leave your stuff. The rock wall and trees are nice to hang towels to dry. There is a school of fish living by the rock barrier, not too far into the water. We saw a turtle in the middle of the bay both times. We got a 5 minute video, pretty close to it, that is amazing! The fish and turtles are used to people so they just let us watch.
Go to the small yellow buoy to see a âsunken cityâ and tons of fish! Go to the white buoy to see a sunken pirate ship and...
