I had the most amazing time stay at the Juliette Hostel! It was my first hostel experience and I think I got the best of the best. Prior to arrival you will receive the entry code via Whats App. Make sure you download it prior. Depending on your arrival time you will use your code but when I arrived I was buzzed in. I was greeted with a cold bottle of water and continued with the check in process. All went smooth. I went up to the room (Room 2, there are about 8 different rooms I believe) and got situated. The rooms were kept at 75 which was very cool (for me) but after walking around Old San Juan you will be grateful. I had my hoody just in case but never needed it.
You'll receive one sheet, blanket and towel. No washcloth so bring your own. I am happy I thought to bring one with me! If I didn't I'm sure they would've helped me get one. Everyone was extremely helpful and just want to see their guests have fun. The room had eight beds and I believe there were three other women in the room with me. It was weird, for my first hostel experience it was a lot quieter than I thought it would be. Everyone was doing their own thing so I hardly saw any of them. The bed was comfortable for me and I appreciate the full size! I read in a previous review that there were men there but I never came across any men while I was there and although they are affiliated with other hostels on the same street I never felt uncomfortable staying there. It felt like home. If you are looking for a party-ish vibe I don't think you'll find it here. Which was very fine for me. Party outside and come "home" to peace and quiet. There is also an amazing work space a few doors down that you also have access to where you can do your work. I received a last minute job request and it was after my check out time so I thought I couldn't do the job but when I asked, I was told I still had access to it so I was able to get my job done!
This location will have you in close proximity to it all. I Uber'd every where and it was always reliable and fast. However, if you are like me and don't mind walking, you can walk to Old San Juan from the hostel and Uber back if tired. I walked to and fro and it wasn't a problem. You are going to be about 5-7 minutes away from beautiful beach type area which is right across from back of The Capitol Building. Walk down some steps and you can walk on the sand and get in the water if you'd like. The water is BEAUTIFUL and at around 7/8 in the morning when no one is there it is very peaceful. Also, if you are a runner there are plenty of places to run in San Juan and you won't be alone as there will be lots of people walking, running and biking. If you go to the other side of the building the front...lol...you'll see the statues of the presidents that have visited Puerto Rico. Andddd most importantly you'll find the Helado carts selling that good Puerto Rican Ice! Soooo good and it cost about $5.
Safety. As a solo traveler, I felt very safe. I walked around for the four days I was there and never felt scared. No one pressuring you to buy anything from them, no cat calling. People just want you to enjoy their island, and that I did! When I go back however, I will go during the weekend because I stayed from Mon-Thurs and missed out on places like La Factoria and La Placita...but it's all good that just means I must return.
I included all of my experience on the island because I wanted possible guests to know that the location allows you to be an uber ride away or even a walk away from your next adventure.
I would highly recommend Juliette Hostel to all of my family and friends.
The pictures I’ve included are all places I walked to from the hostel!

Read moreIt was my first time staying at a hostel, so I wouldn't have any other to compare it to. However, overall, I had a pleasant stay. The staff are friendly, great communication before arrival, and the place is pretty clean. The hostel tries its best, as shown by all the signs they have to inform people about the male custodian they have and the timeframe for maintenance. There are also signs that ask guests to be respectful and as quiet as they can.
I was in room five, and during my stay, it was never a full room. Girls came and went. For the most part, we all understood the assignment and kept our voices low, trying not to make unnecessary noises late at night when we came back from parties and other activities. If you are a light sleeper, a hostel is probably not a good choice in general. I consider myself a light sleeper, but I was so tired out from the things that I do during the day that I just knocked out right away.
The bed is comfortable, and you get a privacy curtain. The room AC can get cold, so you would need some extra layers. You pay $10 for the shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, towel, and blanket. You keep the blanket; however, they did take my towel while cleaning. I asked for a second towel, and they provided it free of charge. The locker is small and won't even fit a suitcase or carry-on. It's spacious enough for my small backpack and other stuff.
The hostel is located in an okay area. You can call it the neighborhood or the hood. Yet, I didn't find it to be unsafe in a way that I had to clutch my purse or anything like that. (If you have ever been to certain parts in Brooklyn NY, or East NY, this is quite safe to me.) I was outside at 3 AM talking to the bartender, Jesse, from the bar across the hostel, and others who work there. They were friendly people and told me more about the area. There's also a little cafe/booth across from it; there was music, and the owner recommended a dancing place in San Juan. There is a club around the block; it can get loud, but it didn't bother me much.
Lastly, I think its location is convenient; it's within walking distance of many attractions, has beautiful beach views nearby, restaurants, and is 20 minutes from Plaza Colón. I would definitely come back for another stay if I come to...
Read moreExperience was ok. I chose this hostel because its women’s only however the actual hostel is just a floor that is in a shared building with other apartments. So you will be around men (who are also in the building), just not on the hostel floor. There’s also men the clean the rooms between 11a and 3pm. The room with six beds was fine - nothing special. You have a privacy curtain that wraps all around your bed, a small light, and an outlet. The bed I stayed in had a very weird brown stain on the wall right above the pillow so that made me a bit uncomfortable. The lockers are pretty and dont fit hard shell luggage so you’ll have to unpack your bag and slide your empty luggage under the bed. Bathrooms and showers were clean. The hostel was definitely not at capacity so it wasn’t crowded at all. Location - up the street is a beautiful view of the ocean and a small beach, but the beach area is definitely NOT a five minute walk. Next door is a healthy food / hippie kinda coffee shop. And across the street are two bars. You can walk to Old San Juan from the hostel - 15-20 mins. Overall the location felt pretty safe. You’ll get a code to enter the building and its on a small street so just be aware of your surroundings. Noise - you will absolutely hear music from the bars until late at night. Its not super loud, but its audible. This is not a quiet street after a certain time. Service - nothing special, they’re polite and professional. As standard, you get one towel, one sheet, one waffle weave blanket, and one bottle of water free. The rooms are kept at 75-76° so if you sleep chilly, you’ll have to layer up. The beds have mattress protectors so they make that crunchy noise as you move around. Overall, this hostel is good for the price but...
