A place to relax and snorkel. This is a great place to go if you only have a few hours but want to go to a calm beach to snorkel and do not want to worry about rip currents or heavy waves. There is plenty of parking and you can park the entire day for under $5.00. The beach area has palm trees and lots of room even on the most crowded days. Since this is somewhat a cove (which was man made many years ago). You can snorkel around the rocks and spot all kinds of fish, shells, crabs, starfish, sea urchins with spines and I have even seen octopus and sea snakes. I do wear water shoes because of the above reasons. We have been to this beach many times over the years of travel to Puerto Rico.
A surprise encounter with a baby Manatee... I was just getting out of the water and I heard something right behind me but when I looked I saw nothing there.... but a girl starting yelling that it was a Manatee so I went back in and it was a baby with its mom... they swam around for a few minutes among other swimmers and then headed to deeper water and left...

There is plenty of parking off season, get here early if you are coming during the summer, this is a popular beach since it’s easy to get to driving or commuting. One of the things I love besides the views it’s option to have shade when you had enough of the sun. The Caribbean sun can be a scorcher during the summer months ( May until September). To the right of the beach you have el condado (Hotel district) and to the right you have Old San Juan, the fortress can be clearly seen from the beach. This beach is also great to bring kids since it’s not very deep and minimal waves, there are natural barriers that brake the waves so it’s great to relax and enjoy the Atlantic Ocean side of the Island.

Read moreBalneario de Escambrón is one of the most convenient beaches near San Juan, just a short drive from most of the city. Parking is a bargain at under $5, with plenty of spaces in a clean, well-maintained lot close to the entrance. The beach itself is great for families, thanks to the rock break that creates a calm, sheltered pool—perfect for kids to swim and even snorkel. There’s plenty of curious fish, especially near the rocks. The sand is soft, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the water stays warm. Arriving by 8 AM is best for prime spots, as it doesn’t get really busy until mid-morning. The only downside is that cleanliness can vary depending on how recently it was maintained and how much partying happened the night before—occasional bottle caps or beer bottles can be found. Overall, a great beach option close...
