Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Factory Outlet — Restaurant in San Leandro

Great holiday sales All other times the prices are similar to retail. Retail outlets will sometimes have sales to make them cheaper. Example would be the typical 4 chocolate bars for for $20 which Safeway retails for $4.99 each. The main reason to go here is the SELECTION, which few stores have, and new flavors. Aside from all the candy bar and square flavors, they have every kind of baking chocolate and cocoa mixes. There are also seasonal and discontinued items and the latter are on sale. And then there's the ice cream creations. This is where grandparents and aunts and uncles take the kids. So if you need to get that hard to find blood orange chocolate bar, this is absolutely the place to come to. I walked in the door and NO ONE spoke to me. After about 10 minutes two female Asian workers came and asked if I needed anything. Then they hovered as for about two minutes. One lady decided to make themselves busy where I was standing. It was obvious targeting an African American shopper by the two Asian employees. I was not dressed suspicious, did not look homeless, nor was I rude, loud or ghetto. The Caucasian gentleman who rung up my $69.00 purchase was very cordial and customer friendly. I will NOT patronize this store again. This was my first and LAST dollar I spend on ANY Ghirardelli product again. Asians complain of being targeted but then do then same to people of other cultures. Tucked between a quiet neighborhood and a commercial area,this Ghirardelli outlet is a quaint little gem. Not too crowded but always busy with people coming to grab some chocolate or to sit down to enjoy a sundae ice cream treat. Plenty of spaces in the parking lot when we went on a Saturday afternoon. Its fun to try all the ice cream flavors but I had the Strawberry Passion this time and I enjoyed every spoonful of it. The great thing is that its not sugar overkill even with the chocolate, caramel,and other sweet ingredients used, it hits the right combination. The prices of the sundaes have gone up and the amount you get have gone down over the years and that is always sad to see, but we come here as a family once in a while just to enjoy a nice time...
