Kakuna Sushi — Restaurant in San Leandro

8/24/2025 We ordered 3 Rolls and Chirashi today, we don't understand why the rice was so hard, I could not eat the rice, just eat salmon, avocado and cucumber. So disappointed! ☹️ ☹️

6 Months ago Deluxe Chirashi #35.99, very worthy. The Sashimis are very fresh and abundant. Spicy Seafood Udon $14.99, very worthy, too. I asked for non-Spicy. There are shrimps, squids, little scallops and Mussels. I cannot believe that is this price with a lot of fresh seafoods. Big thumbs 👍👍 And the soup is hot enough, I love it! Sea Salt Edamame, we asked for no sea salt, it is freshly cooked. Takoyaki is not too salty, and delicious. Grilled Squid is very fresh and delicious. Only one thing that we suggested to the server, please don't give the customers when they are still eating the meals. We understand that we can pay it at anytime we want. But it seems not be polite to give the check when the customer is still working on their foods. We suggested the restaurant to consider to give the check the customer is ready and ask for it. The customer next to us agreed with it. She felt uncomfortable when the server gave her the check while she is still working on her meals. The server is so nice and friendly, she apologized to us. Very pleasure dining experience. We will definitely come back to...

Very let down by our experience here. They have 3 locations but this one was closer. The only saving graces were the reasonable pricing free parking lot in the back. Definitely outweighed by the things that went wrong:

1. The soft shell crab never came out till the end but that's because we asked what happened to it
2. The crab had almost no flavor at all.. we were wondering if they refried it..
3. The aburi nigiri wasn't as seared as they should be
4. The sushi rice was huge and not really seasoned
5. They realllllllly like adding wasabi here (y'all may like that)
6. Fish quality could've been better
7. A lot of random small flies going around

We may try their other locations in the future... Highly recommend skipping this one but maybe today was...

Very good for a normal (non omakase level) sushi place. Ordered takeout once at their Milpitas location and once at this location. Order was ready in 15 mins after calling. Food is consistently good quality, reasonably priced, generous portions

I've tried a variety of rolls, sashimi salad, sashimi deluxe, deluxe chirashi, nigiris. All the raw fish pieces or slices are thick and huge and always fresh. Sushi rolls are also big with the bulk of the girth from the fillings on the inside whereas the surrounding rice is actually thin and not excessive, opposite of most places. Can't go wrong with anything here

Big parking behind the restaurant, not crowded. No outdoor seating, but plenty of tables inside. Not real busy during dinner time on a Sunday. I...
