I'm so disappointed I hate leaving a non-positive review I've only had to do it one other time and it felt really bad. My daughter and I are locals been coming to Gus's for many years however it has been some time since we have been here so we thought we would come over and show them some love unfortunately the love was not reciprocated. The young man that took our order seem to be very nice. However my daughter went to the soda machines and they were out of Dr Pepper in both of the machines. When my daughter pointed it out the response from the young lady that worked there was well they're not all out. They were out of sourdough rolls my sliced wheat bread was very dry and crumbly. There were four people working and we were the only people in the store and my daughter tried to pay for some sodas and she waited and waited and waited and nobody came and then when she tried to get their attention again their snarky response was we're busy making sandwiches. Eventually they finally found the time to come over and take my daughter's money and then just before we left we actually overheard them in the kitchen talking s* about us I can't believe it we're really nice people we don't cause problems I don't even like to leave a bad review I'm so bummed that I have to do this I noticed that there are many other not-so-good reviews Im bummed out. I hope the woman that was there today was not the owner or the manager because that was terrible customer service zero friendliness bad attitude . Remember you set the bar . All of these things can be fixed it could be a great place again. Clean up your store clean up your attitudes and keep fresh food stocked in your store I have been a business owner in San Luis Obispo for for 23 years I have retired I'm 75 years...
Read moreQuite possibly the best sandwich I've ever had. I was introduced to Gus's on a vacation a while back, since then... I dream of those sultry sandwiches - the goodness haunts me, the sandwiches, they call to me, the know me.
It's the same story each visit - Like an addict, I can't resist the call, the itch. "I'll just save the second half for dinner later" I say as I order my full sandwich, the staff knows, they just shake their heads as if to say "she'll never learn."
The allure is in the custom turkey sandwich... my weakness, my desire, it senses my arrival and knows I can't resist those sweet sweet whole wheat buns. We retreat to the patio setting, find a table in the shade, my sandwich likes the shade It starts with one innocent bite - then euphoria sets in, everything gets cloudy, dark, peaceful, the sounds of birds fade and all gets quiet.
Suddenly I wake up covered in bread crumbs and olive oil, there's a smudge of mustard on my cheek. I rub my eyes willing them to focus, "what happened? Where is my sandwich?" My eyes focus to the carnage around me - "No! Not again!" The only evidence of our moment of passion lies in a discarded wrapper at my feet, and a small olive oil stain on my blouse, I wreak of condiments and shame... I hang my head and retreat to my car as quickly as my newly bloated walrus-esque body can muster. The regret is 100% worth it. See you...
Read moreCan someone clue me in on what has happened to this place in recent months? Change in management? Bad management? They just stopped caring at all? A friend of mine got me into this place earlier this year; it was a favorite of hers for decades since she was a student at Cal Poly. The first time we went it was good and the food was good too, but every time we've gone since then, things have just been falling apart at the seams worse and worse with each visit. First, the salad bar went out of service and never came back (was it ever IN service, even?). Then, the fridges broke. I swear it has been a least a month and a half and they are still broken. How can you even call yourself a grocery store with no fridges?? That's also when they started running out of ingredients - no tuna salad, no peppers, just like very basic important ingredients for their sandwiches are out. And the attitude at the place is just like, shrug, welp, sorry we're out of that one. OH and literally the chips we got there last time were even stale, it's just so so bizarre. The wheels are falling off quickly and no one is bothering to even try to pick them up. I'm baffled and at this rate I don't know how they can possibly still be in business by the time 2025 rolls around. Anyone have any scoop on what is...
