I summarize my recent overall good dining experience in this review and look forward to returning soon.
I came into Little Thai on a busy Thursday afternoon at the recommendation of one of my coworkers who was treating me to lunch. With a mutual interest in Thai food, we ended up here as it's one of the top Thai places in town.
We walked in to a clean, well-lit establishment with a definitive yet not exaggerated Thai decor. and were walked to our wooden booth table with a collection of spaces nicely arranged under a glass panel. After sitting down, we were served water and had a chance to review the menu. I found it mostly obvious, save the two-letter meat abbreviations which took a moment to process ("SQ for 'squid,' yeah...").
Being indecisive, I was a tad startled when the waitress came in and took our orders. My colleague ordered a pork pad thai, and I ordered a Basil Noodle (veggie) and Thai Ice Tea w/ boba as part of a promotional they had at the front door.
She took our menus afterward and I unfolded my napkin to see a fork with a spot on it, to which my request to have it replaced was promptly granted. It dampened the experience, but wasn't a showstopper.
After fifteen to twenty minutes of chatting with my colleague, our food arrived. The iced tea was refreshing as expected, with the sweetness coming out in appropriate harmony with the herb-like accents of tea flavor. The tapioca boba left something to be desired, as they were unexpectedly firm and slightly unpleasant to chew and got in the way of the otherwise smooth drinking experience.
However, the basil noodles were excellent. The presentation of ingredients was compartmentalized, with noodles all bunched up on one side with veggies on the other side's edge. The coatings of oils and peppers added visual texture to the entree to make it look further enticing. Most eye-opening though was the use of rice paper as a base to keep the food bunched together in the central area of the plate: it wasn't something I'd seen before, and it contributed to a great dining experience with these noodles.
Digging in to a warm-not-hot plate, I began by sampling the veggies. The peppers and onions, in particular, still had their flavor and texture preserved, and the oils used to augment their taste didn't overwhelm my taste buds, which let me enjoy this colorful component of the dish.
Next, I tried out the rice noodles. They were firm (al dente would be a suitable analog here), but they packed the flavor of the oils and pepper coated on them well. Being medium-spicy, the noodles had a kick to them that made eating the dish more exciting that wasn't so hard I had difficulties eating (My nose ran only slightly and I had a cup of water to cope). As a result, they were pleasant to chew and offered a welcome contrast to the easy-chew vegetables.
On the side, I sampled the rice paper. Upon being served the dish, I was mesmerized by its use to hold the dish together, so I tried it plain for a bite and it tasted like paper (rice paper, i.e. fine, but not really worth devouring). After I cleaned my plate, I then had some rice paper at the base, which was well-coated in oil, and as expected that was much more enjoyable to consume.
When a different waitress came to take our plates, I offered her the feedback I've written about, to which she was well-receiving of my comments. We got the checks a moment later. Ten dollars for those basil noodles was definitely great value, but five dollars for that tea... not so much; next time, I'll just order the tea without the boba to appreciate that sweet tea more. It was a good lunch there; it wasn't anything legendary, but I'm looking forward to my next...
Read more1/5 Stars I have been a customer of this Thai restaurant and have always enjoyed the food quality. However, after today’s experience, I will not be returning. I brought my mother and sister here for what I hoped would be a pleasant meal. Unfortunately, the problems began immediately with our food order and only got worse from there. First, our food orders were incorrect twice. I specifically ordered drunken noodles with NO SPICE because my mother cannot eat spicy food. Despite this clear request, the noodles came out spicy, and my mother nearly choked when she tried to eat them. Additionally, I ordered soup with shrimp, but we received a completely different vegetable-filled soup that we never requested. These mistakes forced us to wait longer and disrupted what was meant to be a nice family meal. After we finally received our corrected orders and finished eating, I informed our waitress that I would be paying the check via Apple Pay. What happened next was both disappointing and deeply troubling. For approximately 15 minutes while my family and I sat talking at our table with the check present, both our waitress and what appeared to be the manager or owner repeatedly circled our table - at least 6 times. Their behavior clearly suggested they believed we had no intention of paying our bill. What made this even more concerning was observing that other customers (who did not share our race) were sitting at their tables with bills present for similar or longer periods, yet they received no such treatment or surveillance. As an African American family who spent over $100 trying to enjoy a nice meal together, we were made to feel like potential thieves simply for taking time to talk after our meal before paying. This type of discriminatory treatment, combined with the multiple food order errors, made for an extremely disappointing dining experience. While I have enjoyed the food here in the past, I cannot and will not support a business that provides poor service and treats customers differently based on race. The combination of incorrect orders (including food that nearly made my mother choke) and discriminatory surveillance made this an unacceptable experience. I hope the management will reflect on both their kitchen accuracy and treatment of all customers, ensuring everyone receives respectful service regardless of race. Would not recommend based on...
Read moreLittle Thai is my and my family’s favorite restaurant ever. We have been eating here at least once a month for literally 20 years!!! We started going to their first location when I was a baby and now at 22 years old, there is still nothing better to me than an order of their sticky rice and coconut chicken soup. The owners are the sweetest most selfless people you could ever imagine. This came to a full circle this Thanksgiving. We get Little Thai often on thanksgiving and Christmas, because they are the BEST and usually one of the only restaurants open. This year, they were closed on thanksgiving. I pulled into the parking lot to order our thanksgiving dinner to go- but they were closed. The wife was outside planting flowers and noticed we were trying to get in- she told us they were closed and then the most miraculous thing happened... “you want us to make your thanksgiving dinner?- we will make your dinner!” Her husband was inside, putting up a Christmas tree. They unlocked the door, let us in, took our order, and the 2 of them went back to open the kitchen just for us- and made us our thanksgiving dinner!!! This was literally a MIRACLE because we had no food prepared and it’s just me (22) my sister (18) and my grandma (90) at home... I am tearing up as I write this just as I did all through our thanksgiving dinner. Thank God for this wonderful small business and their angel owners for so many years of yummy food, excellent care, and now saving my little family’s...
