First off I don't respect any establishment that kicks people out if they don't have a reservation. Very unfriendly to Walk-Ins (mockingly asks them to wait 4 hours to be considered for seating), and only accepting or prioritizing reservations; even though small establishments like these should ONLY operate on first come first serve basis to fairly accommodate people in such a tiny place. It's not our fault their kitchen weirdly takes up the entire place, leaving no room for customers! We left with a very bad first impression, but we reluctantly decided to make a reservation for another day to give them a second chance to gauge the food quality and see if it even lives up to the hype. Our gut instinct was correct, it definitely didn't! OVERHYPED by biased and sponsored influencers! Horrible service/greetings; Even WITH a reservation, the hostess wanted to seat us in the worst possible table near the restroom, although there were other better tables available. Our waiter came and took our drink and appetizer order, but afterwards was so inattentive and wouldn't look our way even once, and we had to wave or shout "excuse me" to get their attention. Then when they finally came with our appetizer after a looong wait, the wings were super dry and rock hard, and we had missing plates and silverware. After we asked for some, the waiter left and tended to other people completely ignoring our request, until our appetizer got cold! Are we expected to eat without plates or silverware? Pizza was also laughably undercooked, dough was flimsy and soggy, the bottom was soft and white, not perfectly crisp and lightly charred like typical Neapolitan pizzas. It was a joke of a pizza. On the other hand the people sitting next to us received burnt pizzas lol. Two opposite spectrums lol We also asked for mushrooms to be added to our pizza and it came with none. Pesto pasta was missing salt, and way too bland. Didn't even taste like pesto! The wings should already come with cilantro lime sauce...but our waiter randomly (and without our consent) charged us for a second sauce we never even asked for. I also don't respect establishments that don't accommodate people with diet restrictions!!!! We don't eat pork, and they charged us like 4 dollars for every pork to chicken substitution! Very inconsiderate and disrespectful! Never even mentioning they'll be charging us for these substitutions! The entire menu mainly caters to those who eat either vegetarian or pork, with no regard for those that don't. I will NEVER...
Read moreMy one night off and I decide to try a new place to eat via delivery. I order pizza and the meatball the delivery doesn’t make it here. No idea who got my food. I called them and they instantly want to refund me the delivery charges over the phone. So I drive 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back which is now an hour later from when I was supposed to get my delivery originally. I get there and they’re still trying to figure out a refund. They probably should just comp my entire meal for the hassle, time and I am starving but instead they’re still figuring out reversing the charges and want me to pay again without the delivery charges. I said no way am I paying a second time without getting my money back first. I mean that’s just logically bad business practice as you refund the customer’s money first and make sure they are happy after what just occured or comp for the inconvenience, not instantly have them pay a second time for your mishaps. After a few minutes, they still give me the wrong amount back because they didn’t take into account I paid a tip inadvance also with the original charges and rather than just saying for your hassle of time and over all starving, we probably should comp the entire meal and the owner still has not come to speak to me in person but ( did over the phone even the host asked if the owner came over to speak probably thinking well she should have.) Absolutely amazing food which is sad because they would’ve gotten a five from me but customer service and things like this do make you or break you. In an instance, like this, the customer should come first with their satisfaction. I already said it which should’ve occurred but also the owner should’ve personally come over as the hassle continued from start to finish! As I was waiting for the debacle to get fixed, I was contemplating getting dessert that I saw next to the register, but by the end of it all, I just thought I want to come home. They are lacking in mere logistics of making it right with the customer first. Refund customer and make sure I am happy with the order first of in a bad situation not let it continue. Everyone at the front was very friendly I will say. It would’ve been a go to place for the remaining time.I won’t be back, unfortunately due to how they logically were not thinking what a hassle for me and it...
Read moreWe've been kickin' the tire on Sunnyside Pizzeria for a while now. We finally checked it out and everything was excellent. We sat at the bar and ordered solid bottle of wine and tried the meatball appetizer. Hand on heart, these are the best meatballs in the city. The sauce tastes like a traditional Sunday sauce. It was like eating with our family in Brooklyn and Staten Island. 3 meatballs, amazing texture and the sauce is exquisite. You'll find yourself scraping the bowl with your finger. It's that good.
For our mains we ordered the Hot Honey Char pizza and the Chicken Piccata.
Sunnyside is known for the Hot Honey Char and this is well warranted. The quality of the pepperoni stands out, and it cups in the oven so it gets crispy around the edges. This pizza is a playful version of a traditional pepperoni pizza, but then has ricotta cheese and a drizzle of hot honey. The ricotta is great because it mellows out the pepperoni, and the hot honey offers a bit of sweet heat. We loved this pizza.
I'm not normally a fan of Piccata, but my lady loves it. We were both blown away by this dish. Piccata doesn't typically have cream in it. Most places it's butter, lemon and capers. Sunnyside amps this up considerably by adding a dash of cream, making a richer dish, but it's not overly rich. It's just a perfect sauce.
The chicken was perfectly cooked and very thin, almost like a cutlet. They certainly don't skimp on the amount of chicken either. The pasta was fresh pasta, not boxed pasta. It was fantastic.
We have a lot of Neapolitan pizza options in Atlanta now. Sunnyside stands out amongst them as a place that certainly stays inside the tradition of this style of pizza (and pastas), but they also have some playful options on the menu (like the Hot Honey Char) which modernize the tradition.
The space is small, super charming and tucked away in the corner of the Springs Landing shopping center.
We are super stoked to go back and try more of the menu. Hats off to the owners of this small business. Y'all are doing...
