So, I am always fair and forthright with my reviews. I really wanted to like this place. The people that run it are SUPER NICE!!! They truly are... The atmosphere is very relaxed and calm. Comfortable? No... My 1st issue, sadly enough is a sign on the door saying that there's no customer restroom, and it also said "don't even ask". Well. I have Crohn's Disease. I have an elderly mother that has severe dementia. If she says she has to go, it's past the point of being able to wait... luckily, we don't live far and made it home. That being said... The service: very polite and just plain nice! We were very hopeful!! Sat down, very clean... nicely kept place. The food arrived!!! I was excited to try after the good reviews!!! 1st glance, I could tell the fish AND fries were overcooked. They were... the batter was burnt and tasted of that alone. There's no flavor in their batter whatsoever. East meets West? How... The tartar sauce was VERY GOOD! However, I was only able to get a half a piece down. The fries went in the bin. Waste of calories... Just yuck... I don't get it tbh... Good reviews... but... they obviously weren't honest OR the people reviewing no nothing of how fried fish is supposed to look, feel, smell, and taste. The fish wasn't terrible... it was obviously frozen, albeit perhaps line caught... but it was mushy and had a very strange chemical fishy flavour... Sadly, I have to say this... It just wasn't up to par... im so sorry guys... If you remember Piccadilly's??? A Salt Lake icon... this place isn't even close... Sadly, I really like the owners... They are incredibly nice and I hope they'll improve. Maybe this was an off night? Idk... I will return in a few months to see. I am very hopeful things have improved because these guys are so sweet... They deserve good reviews based on their level of customer service (except the bathroom...
Read moreI’ll repeat what I said on Facebook: Oh my gosh, these red snapper fish & chips are AMAZING!! Easily the best fish & chips I’ve ever had. I’d have taken a picture, but I wolfed it down too fast to care about making an Instagram reel.
I love the perfectly seasoned, perfectly textured, crispy batter. The batter is also not overly applied to the extent that you’re eating nothing but batter; it’s a perfect balance of batter and fish.
Keep in mind, it comes out hot and oily; if that bothers you, pat it dry to soak up some oil, but for me, I didn’t even notice until someone pointed it out. The oil didn’t hamper my experience in the slightest.
The fish is as flavorful as halibut, but wonderfully unique. The sauce selection is fantastic (I recommend the mango curry, in particular). The fries are perfect, classic diner-style or gastropub-style fries you would expect and crave when looking for comfort-food while dining out. Sure, there may technically be better fries out there, but not at this price point.
The price is supremely affordable at roughly $16 per person. Given the price, I’m giving it five stars in terms of food, service, and atmosphere because it’s obviously no Michelin-Star restaurant, but it’s too affordable and too delicious for me to care. The owner (I think) brought out my food personally, and the tables were clean—you can’t ask for more than that in such a small, simple place. The atmosphere is exactly what it needs to be: a place that is clean, well-run, and well-loved, regardless how small or affordable it may be.
It was dinner time on a Monday when I went in, and I was sadly alone, and that’s what made me mad enough to write this review: EVERYONE needs to check this place out!! Gosh darn it, I’m gonna gain all my...

I simply cannot believe the amount of five star reviews this place has. Having read a few before coming, I was so hyped to try this hole in the wall.
Before we even discuss the food, let’s address two other issues:
They charged me more than what was indicated on the menus. The three-piece fish box was priced at $14 and both orders came above $20/person. This is outright theft.
Every single touchable service was disgusting. The film of oil was present on the tables, napkin dispensers, cutlery(dinky little plastic garbage as far as cutlery goes), table tops, seats, salt shakers, and vinegar bottles.
Food:
Fish was just terrible. Super thick breading with no crunch or flavor. Just a soggy breading to mask the poor-quality fish they serve. Both my father and I bit into the first piece and made a strange facial appearance. At first we thought it was old fry oil, but we both determined it wasn’t cod that we were tasting. Having spoken to the gent behind the counter, we learned they use tilapia. You can visit any other fish and chips place in the state using cod, salmon, or halibut for less than $20.
Fries are hard to mess up, but these folks did it. They drench the fries in sauce snd completely remove any texture they once had. I’d much rather have the sauce on the side so I can determine how much of that flavor/texture to enjoy.
Garbage cans are littered with other customers trays/cups. It’s foul to see the remains of other meals on top of the garbage cans as you eat. We spent roughly 35 minutes there today, slow traffic, and never once did the staff clean their restaurant.
I would recommend visiting Slapfish any day over this dismal excuse for Fish N’...
