Arrived at 12:30 pm on a Saturday. Signage to the restaurant within the commercial center not strong. Follow your nose inside the cluster of buildings. Stairs in the front side, accessible ramp on left / south side of the complex. The dining room is airy, spacious (I'm rocking a knee scooter with a broken foot) and well appointed.
We are vacationing (mid October) and came in for a late breakfast. Greeted with a clever specials poster including varieties of homemade muffins (with some crossed off because sold out). Seated quickly, the place was about half full with plenty of inside and outside seating. We opted to sit inside (I'm a heat wimp).
The menu didn't disappoint (oddly not available on their website) - lots of breakfast and lunch options with inspired variations of the typical breakfast offerings. Coffee was fresh and they happily accommodated my request for 1/2 caffeine.
The salmon Benedict looked amazing but big for me, I inquired about a half portion and was told "Sure but still full price". I ordered a fruit bowl option with side of fresh muffin, grilled and a side of crispy bacon (you know, for protien). Hubby ordered the Ya'll Benedict (biscuit with sausage and sausage gravy replaced hollandaise sauce with grits on the side).
Both arrived quickly and didn't diasappoint. Fruit was fresh and appropriately ripe, served in a half cantaloupe bowl. The grilled strawberry mango muffin was delicious! And the 4 slices of bacon was perfectly crispy. The Benedict was tasty, flavorful sausage, delicate biscuits though eggs more hard cooked than soft boiled eggs typical of Benedict. But still delicious as evidenced by my husband's empty plate.
The bill was a pleasant surprise, under $40 for 2 of us. The mix of patrons was interesting, families, couples, fit folk, older couples using canes, locals, some single diners and tourists. They had family friendly touches like workable sippy style cups which the 4 year old next to us demonstrated as well functional. Another couple sat on the porch, under the canopy with their fluffy dog.
A definite "do-again"...
Read moreVisited today for a late breakfast with my other half.
We arrived around 1045 and after checking in with the hostess (as required), we were given an electronic (table ready) device and advised :
“we are free to roam the shops in the adjacent plaza, and a table should be ready in about 20 minutes”
About 20 minutes later, the buzzer advised our table was ready.
The place was rammed with people, which in combination with its good Google reviews (4.7) was a promising sign.
We were seated at a small table near the back of the house, and greeted almost immediately by our (male) server, who did not avail us of his name.
He took our drink orders and quickly returned with two delicious cups of coffee.
About 3 minutes later, he came by again to ask if we were “ready to order?”
We hesitated for what could have been 20 seconds, and my other half ordered a Breakfast Scramble with a side of fresh fruit. I had the Stuffed French Toast with Strawberry topping, which surprisingly did not come with a side offering.
I ordered (at an up-charge) a side of bacon AND a side of sausage patties. (They offered links, also)
The food came out hot and very presentable in less than 10 minutes, possibly as few as 8 minutes.
The bacon was perfectly crispy, but a bit too cool. The fresh fruit was pineapple heavy. Everything else knocked it out of the park. Our OPINIONS of the bacons temperature and the quantity of pineapple in a fresh fruit side, should NOT deter you from coming here.
The waiter was professional, prompt, and very efficient. He didn’t have much personality though, which may have been a function of how busy they (and he) were.
The Over Easy Cafe does an EXCELLENT breakfast!
Pros:
Food portions are respectable Service was very good and fast Prices are very fair 4 Coffee was tasty
Cons:
Place is VERY busy Parking is lousy (about 12 spots out front)
A definite visit...
Read moreOver Easy was always our go to breakfast restaurant on Sanibel. Loved it. The ice tea was the best that you could get anywhere. We ate there a couple of days ago at their new location. 5 of us ordered iced tea. We all took our first drink of tea and looked at each other and said...."The iced tea tastes like it has coffee in it". Our waiter was slow that day so we stopped one of the owners as she was delivering food to another table. We told her the situation. She came back out with ONE glass of iced tea and said "We tasted the tea and it doesn't taste like coffee. I am the one who made it this morning. Also, we had no other customers complain". Well... I am here to tell you that we all had clean palettes and when we tasted the tea it had a coffee taste. She made us feel like we were trouble makers and lying. Our waiter never spoke of the "tea problem" and gave bad service. It was outside dining and honestly it is too hot to sit out there right now. The tent they have up isn't doing the job and the huge fan kept blowing everything off of the table. They also served me black burnt toast and I had to ask them to remake it. Moral of the story...when you have a whole table of people telling you the tea has a coffee taste believe them. Don't say that it doesn't and not bring out fresh tea. We were pretty upset by that. She simply didn't care and thought we made it up. The tea she made was extremely weak and had no resemblance to the tea they used to serve... plus had coffee taste! One last note...the omelettes were smaller and everything else was just so so. This has a one star mostly for the behavior of the...
