Hands down the best food on Sanibel and the most delicious waffle I've ever had!! Let me preface this review by saying I am not a Vegan or Vegetarian.
I want to help those like me, avoid the mistake of NOT going here bc it's a "vegan" restaurant. The food is so BLEEPIN' good. Owner and Chef, Nikki has "a way" with food I've never seen before. I've been to Sanibel twice (early Jan '19 & '20) for a total of 10 days. My mom raved about this place long before I ever went. Not being a vegan, I was skeptical. But, I am a chef and am willing to try anything. In those 10 days, I've been to Sanibel Sprout at least 7 times, not including meals I took to eat later. It's not just great vegan food. It's great food period! End of story.
If you're not completely sold (or even if you are) please just go to Sanibel Sprout and order the waffle. It's hands down the best one I've ever had, gluten free or not. I begged her to tell me what's in it... and she did! But it's clearly such a precise ratio of different flours plus her love for what she does that I could try a thousand times and not come close. As a "starter drink" try the Sproutachino. If you dont like these... you should go to a doctor and find out how to regain your sense of taste : )
Keep up the GREAT work Nikki! I cant wait to come back to Sanibel and switch off between eating at the 'Sprout' and hangin' on the beach. Rinse. Repeat....
Read moreSo me and my lovely wife were looking for waffles and preferably gluten free. We are here in holiday on this amazing, welcoming island Sanibel. We just 20 minutes ago entered the place excited, said hello to the young girl behind the counter, barely got a smile back asked what is special about the wizard waffle. She replied it is just a waffle. She immediately turned back to the only one lady in the place and continue talking. We looked through the menu items speaking to ourselves out loud and thought perhaps we could stay yet no reaction from anyone, mind you we saw three girls behind the counter and only one customer. We sat down and waited, waited perhaps for someone to bring us a menu or perhaps waited for that feeling of hospitality you would hope to receive in a specialty place such as this one but we never experienced it. We looked at each other highly disappointed and thought well if after 5 minutes still no one comes, we ought to follow our initial gut feeling and discreetly walk out given it was obvious you will not feel welcome. A sad experience and definitely something the owner should look into and be concerned about. Not surprising...
Read moreI had a terrible experience here for the first time. I don't live on Sanibel, but I do stop at Sprout sometimes when I'm there. Most of the time it is good. A couple times it was not as good. They seem to run out of things. I get something else if that happens, No big deal. Except for today. They had nothing to make nothing except for a BLT, hummus and a couple soups. I have had the BLT before and it is usually good. This time the Plentils were stale, there was tomato, Lettuce. a ton of Veganese and a sprinkle of coconut bacon, possibly a teaspoon. My guess they were running out of that too. My daughter ordered a drink she usually gets, and said something was missing and threw it out. Wasted 53.00 on a terrible lunch. As we stuck our half eaten plates on Jerry, we noticed all the other plates from previous customers, who also had BLTs. If you go call ahead to make sure they have ingredients to make something correctly.Their air was broke, which they can't help but I asked for ice for the warm lemon water. They didn't have any of that either. I like Sprout usually, but that was just...
