I regret to report that my recent dining experience at this establishment (3534 State Street, Santa Barbara, California) was profoundly disappointing. The demeanor of the staff was not only lacking in attentiveness, but also, unfortunately, marked by rudeness, ignorance, and a concerning level of disrespect.
Upon selecting a sandwich, I inquired about the available bread options. The individual at the counter listed several choices, including sourdough, bagels, and French baguette. I respectfully noted that he had omitted the Italian panino, which I had previously had at this establishment.
What transpired next was disconcerting: he emitted a derisive laugh, devoid of genuine amusement, and asserted that French baguette and Italian panino are "the same." This display of ignorance, coupled with such arrogance, was quite striking.
As a certified Cordon Bleu Chef and Sommelier with extensive experience in some of the world’s most refined social environments, as well as co-owner of a gourmet food distribution company, I sought to clarify the clear distinctions between the French baguette and Italian panino: their shape, crust, texture, ingredients, and flavor. Rather than engaging in a constructive dialogue, the individual at the counter escalated his tone and laughed louder, dismissing my expertise and indicating that my presence was not appreciated.
Such behavior is not simply unprofessional; it is, in fact, appalling. For any food establishment to condone such ill-mannered and uninformed behavior is a matter of serious concern.
The issues did not conclude there. The sandwich I was served contained unacceptably spoiled sprouts that emitted an unpleasant odor - a significant health hazard.
Moreover, the restroom facilities were in a deplorable state. The odor of untreated sewage was overpowering, indicating that it had not been properly cleaned in several days, if not longer.
This experience revealed a troubling disregard for customer respect, food safety, and fundamental hygiene standards. It reflects a broader culture of indifference that no reputable establishment should condone. I hope this letter will prompt a thorough internal review and the swift implementation of necessary...
Read moreYikes! I really hate to write this negative review for a business that I view myself as a regular. While I often go to the Goleta/Patterson location (and miss the one in Isla Vista), I was in the area for work and decided to go to this newer Upper State Street location. One perk is you can conveniently order through Google with a neat method to track your order.
Upon arrival, the tiny parking lot is a disaster. Since access is narrow between two buildings and happens to be angled parking, someone cannot enter easily off of busy State Street when a car is pulling out. One particular vehicle had to be guided by a bystander during my visit because they almost backed into the outdoor front patio. Not ideal, but also something South Coast probably has no control over.
When I entered, they have an efficient process with two lines: one for pre-orders and the other for in-person orders. I walked straight up to the pre-order register where the employee asked my name. He came back and asked if I wanted a bag to carry it or cutlery, of which I declined given that I was going back home. When I arrived to my house and opened the salad, I realized the dressing was already on the salad versus in a little cup. I had requested it be on the side so it wouldn't be wilted or soggy. Nevertheless, it was exactly how I dreaded. I often enjoy the salad for two meals given the large size, however, half of the salad ended up in the trash because it was no longer enjoyable but also wouldn't last. I hope that this review helps encourage this one small...
Read moreI hate to do this but I've spent so many years and money going to Patterson and Carrillo locations, it must be done. I tried out the state st. location today for pick up, two salads. I'll just sum everything wrong; Cashier didn't wanna be there apparently. Kitchen was nasty, no way if would pass an inspection today. Didn't give the extra side dressings when I got home. The salads tasted very off. We've had these like 50 times before at other locations. My Cobb salad tasted like nothing, it was mainly lettuce. Not to my surprise, my stomach is all kinds of messed up after less than 30 mins of eating it. I guess bacteria works pretty fast. Won't be going back to this location. Sorry for...
