OUTSTANDING! Without a doubt, the best Gastro Pub within at least a 50 mile radius!!!
Pub: I, myself, am not a Craft Beer enthusiast. However, the staff is fabulous with beer suggestions, based on your preferences. Pre-order sample tastings are available. They also have a wine list, and fabulous hand-crafted cocktails are offered.
Atmosphere: Rustic. I try to be there at off-peak hours, in order to take advantage of easy conversation and pressure-free dining. It's got a bustling lunch crowd, for good reason.
Gastro: OMG, beet salad and flatbread pizza! The Executive Chef's creative thinking is apparent when selecting mostly familiar dishes, with outstanding twists. His knack for combining standard ingredient recognition with alternative flavor profiles, is quite simply a gift. Superior sourcing is evident, and the line execution is excellent! Menu does rotate. I plead with them to continually offer the 40 Hour Beef Rib: positively melt-in-your-mouth!
Dessert: Surprisingly young, Iris was put on this earth to do her dessert thing! Lucky for all of us, that Newhall Refinery snatched her up. Her simple made-to-order Churros with Horchata Ice Cream are spectacular. Never have I had a freshly prepared Churro; what a huge difference that makes! The crispy outer shell yields gently to an almost immediately disintegrating center. I could eat a dozen of these little gems. Her more elaborate Candy Bar dessert is quite frankly, sublime. It is deconstructed components of my favorite candy bar flavors, supremely prepared in individual portions, and perfectly presented as to savor and appreciate each flavor on its own. Distinctly much more rewarding than biting into them as a whole. You simply must experience it there, to fully understand my enthusiasm toward this masterpiece!
Bravo to Simon and Shannon for having the exquisite ability to envision their restaurant ideals, and for assembling their extremely talented staff, to make this one of the favorite dining experiences around!
Please also treat yourself to experience their other nearby, also insanely popular restaurant, Egg Plantation! Equally executed food menu, with a variety of absolutely-to-die-for...
Read moreMy husband and I visited here on a Sunday night for the first time. The restaurant is uniquely decorated which helps it stand out from others in town. We were sold on trying this restaurant from the food photos on Yelp. I didn't realize that they change their menu often because most of what we saw on Yelp wasn't available anymore. We sat at the bar planning to drink a little before eating. Our bartender turned server was Matt who was absolutely fantastic- attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly- he made our experience the 5 star rating that I gave! We really appreciated that my husband could try samples of the beer before ordering them and the advice Matt provided was very helpful. I was a little bummed that the only red blend wine they had was only available by the bottle. I settled for the cheapest glass of merlot ($11) and was disappointed- no flavor at all. I later switched to the house cabernet ($10 per glass) which was much better (although the pour sizes could have been a little better - I'd love to see a 9oz option in the future). My husband ordered the oysters and was disappointed because of how small they were. We're from San Diego so his oyster standards are a little high. We also ordered the cheese board which was beautifully displayed and had a ton of flavors- it was a hit for both of us! We eventually decided to order dinner. I had the burger which was cooked to PERFECTION (I'm very picky) and I was able to upgrade my fries to the brisket fries which was a nice option. My husband and I both loved them, again the meat was cooked to perfection. Lastly, my husband ordered the hanger steak. OH. MY. GOD. Words can't describe the heavenly goodness that we devoured (I say we because after my husband let me try it, I couldn't stay away). It was by far one of the absolute best steaks we've ever had and can't wait to bring my dad, the steak- connoisseur, to try this amazingness. We're hooked! Even though it's on the pricier end- it only takes a $10 uber to get here so we'll...
Read moreA 2 star rating turned to a 5 star because of Kim. Kim is something like a guest manager making sure everyone is happy. Dinner started out by first finding out you have to order on your phone for "contactless" ordering. My wife didn't like that because she always has questions and is not a friend to technology. Kim walked us through the process about 10 minutes, and then we hit a snag...I had problems paying because my i just received a new debit card today. My wife said "let's go somewhere else" Kim said I'll take your order, so we ordered. The starters came quickly, a pulled pork slider and Refiners fries. Both where delicious. But 25 minutes later, we were still waiting for the main course. Kim said let me check. 2 minutes later we had dinner. Lisa had Salmon and I had Hanger steak with brocolli. The steak was great, but when I tasted the brocolli, it was so spicy I almost spit it out! I never ever had brocolli that was spicy, and I love hot spices, but broccoli? Kim, saw my reaction and asked what was wrong. I told her "Kim, this broccoli is so spicy I can barely eat it" she smiled and 3 minutes later she brought back a tasty normal broccoli. Kim was saving the day for the refinery! We asked her for the dessert menu, and we raved about the selections but my wife said no thanks. 4 minutes later, we brought out their speciality dessert, Coffee and Donuts, for free! And it was so delicious! You have to try it. We gave Kim a big tip and my wife gave...
