Just visited the new Pocock PH and we came away very impressed.
Note that we are not generally fans of Pockock’s beer or pizza at their original location. But we do appreciate craft beer and our options in SCV are severely limited and lacking.
However, the food at Pocock PH was phenomenal.
We started with the Pocock fries, which were very good. Crispy fries with plenty of bite. Beer cheese was melty but subtle in taste. The pulled pork was tender and smoky. The scallions were pungent and bright. Highly recommend.
We then shared the Calabrian spicy pasta and the smash burger with a side of ceasar salad. We were in love with the pasta at first bite. Cannot recommend enough. The pesto at the rim of the bread bowl just made it perfect. And the spicy cream sauce was so good. The smash burger was crispy and juicy. Honestly, it is a perfect example of a smash burger. If you look up the definition of smash burger, it’s a picture of Pocock’s.
Salad was intense with anchovy. But that’s just how it’s supposed to be. Turns out we like second-rate Caesar dressing better. I’d pass on it, though the dressing was very rich, too rich for us.
The beer is decent enough. The 8th anniversary hazy was sour when it should not have been. The stout was great however. Hit or miss, like the original location. Good enough for SCV, if you ask...
Read moreI've been to the original Pocock location a few times and am happy to have this newer spot adding to the growing options on Main Street in downtown Newhall. It took a while after opening for them to offer the pizzas they're known for to the menu and, initially, especially without the pizzas, it didn't look like they had too many options for vegetarians. So I was pleasantly surprised when I met friends there and they had a whole lot of options for me. Not just the pizza (I got the margherita and it was delicious...amazing wood fired, Naples style crust and cooked longer than a classic Naples pizza, the way we Americans tend to look it. Super good! They also have a more extensive menu than their original spot, including a soyrizo option for tacos. (Also delicious.) The beer menu isn't quite as extensive as the other location but there is still a good amount to choose from. The servers were VERY friendly and engaging. We enjoyed sitting in the rooftop area...nice vibe up there. It did take quite a while for our food to arrive, but when it did we all enjoyed everything we got. Glad to have this as another option for...
Read moreThey have a roof top patio which is unique for the area and very nice on a good day.
The staff are nice, the food was decent but I did not feel well after the oysters. The oysters came with only lemon. there wasn't the normal accouterments with the oysters. They didn't have anything but some Tabasco to give me.
The fish and chips were good but they gave us a tablespoon of tartar sauce, tbsp of ketchup and tbsp of malted vinegar and we had to ask for more obviously for all of them. It came with a side of coleslaw but the coleslaw was basically 2 tbsp in size which is simply ridiculous.
The corned beef slider were incredibly salty and rich in my opinion. then again, what was I too expect with corned beef!
The service was friendly and the prices were decent.
I would not go back unless it was simply for a drink and to enjoy the roof top patio and fireplace...
