As a vegetarian, there are enough menu options that I can have a meal there at any time. Im not going to talk much about the menu given my aforementioned food choice. The beer selection however, is something to ponder. There are plenty of choices - at least 20 handles - likely more, and it seems as there are as many big brand domestics and Euros as there are fine craft beer choices. To that I say, pick a lane. Either have big brand domestics and Euros or go with the fastest growing part of the beer industry for the past 20 years, true Independent Craft Breweries.
As a craft beer enthusiast I understand that we are still the minority. However, it should be noted that craft beer and big brand beer should not be served the same. An example is the frozen pint glass. Big brand beers don't mind being poured into a frozen glass. When a craft beer is poured into a frozen glass the CO2 explodes out of the beer resulting in a foamy pour. The difference in temperature between the beer and the frozen glass make this possible. (Ask your local scientist) The frozen pint glass also changes the flavor profile the beer muting some of the beers characteristics. Ideally the glass and beer are at the same temperature. If you so desire as I do, they will serve your beer in a room temperature glass upon request.
As well, something to ponder, I have yet to see a local brewery on any of their tap handles. I visit this establishment at least once a month, so it may be that I'm not in there when they have a local brewery on tap. It would be nice, not only to see a local Santa Clarita Berewer at Back Yard, but it would also be nice to see a local brewer from Los Angels County. It is, after all, called 'The Backyard Grub n' Brews'. Maybe a brewery literally from your own 'Backyard' would be a logical move.
I give it four out of five stars because they carry just enough Independent Craft Brewers to keep me coming back. As well, the customer service is always exceptional, and the...
Read moreThe Backyard is one of those under par restaurants in the Santa Clarita valley that is average enough to eat at, but nothing to write home about. Most of their dinners, whether, ribs or chicken or meatloaf come with the standard edible brown sauce or gravy, and a few sprigs of broccoli, with a lot of mashed potatoes to fill out the plate. It's really tastes like nothing more than canned brown gravy on your choice of meat. Dinner for four cost over $100 for less than average food, and a couple of drinks. In their defense, the beer was good, but I would not be in a hurry to go back there soon. Other restaurants in the same mall are far better for roughly the same price. A quick 30 second walk around the plaza will lead you to a few better restaurants. The fare - and I mean fare - at the Backyard is edible, but would be far from a cuisine level meal. However, the wait staff are efficient and friendly enough to give the eatery a nice down home feel to it. If you are looking for a quick mediocre meal, the burgers are probably...
Read moreWorse of experience I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Wanted to try it cuz I'd never been there and First off just walking in the place it smelled like rotten eggs.. We could hardly stand it. There were three lady workers there. None of them doing anything like cleaning just drinking beer and chatting amongst themselves. The place was dirty like the plates they gave us for our appetizers, I had to send the first set back because they were so dirty and still had food on them just for them to bring us another set that we're also dirty. 🤦♀️ The kids had grilled cheese kids meals and the cheese wasn't even melted just hard. Terrible food and Terrible service.. tried to finish a little bit We ordered and then went next door to Rattlers to have lunch.. which I might as was much better. I will never go back the the backyard again and really hoping we don't end up get food poisoning...
