Ma'kai Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in Santa Monica

Absolutely the WORST service I have ever experienced at ANY level of dining. Appetizers were ordered but the kitchen decided to try to deliver them WITH our main meals. The waitress looked silly as we asked to have it BEFORE, you know, like how appetizers usually come out early. (Apparently that's a foreign concept at this place and causes a downfall of rude service). Every single one of our meals was incorrect somehow and took 30 minutes to fix AFTER we got up and reminded them we still needed our food (One of them only needed to be changed from regular to sweet potato fries- that shouldn't take 30 minutes). One of the appetizers came 10 minutes AFTER the main meal came to the table and they wanted to charge us for it. When politely asking the manager what was going on in the kitchen and with the service, he said, "Don't worry about it. The food will be out." in a completely a**hole way. Unfortunately, we were a group of 7 and had to automatically give the waitress 20%, but she didn't...

Lunch Review

I've heard mixed reviews about M'KL the night spot; intrigued I decided to go during the day for lunch to get oriented with the place.

After a walk on the beach, we strolled into M'KL for lunch. We were told that we could sit anywhere in the locale - except for the Lounge are because that closed at 2pm. That was odd I thought. Not phased, we sat in the back, the area they call the restaurant. To give a picture, the entire place is open concept; there are not wall or divisors.

Aside from a group that was in their 40s but clearly had been friends since High School and still behaved as they did then, the establishment had few other customers.

Their lunch menu is a bit overpriced. $12 for a Chicken Caesar Wrap with french fries is a bit much; a better deal could be had at the Promenade (perhaps tastier too).

Service was OK at lunch time; but like I said there were few customers at the time...

I have been here a few times while bar hoping with friends. I used to like stopping here.

That changed when my and friends I when in for drinks. We used the bathroom and ordered drinks. I kept signaling the bartender for drinks but all of them ignored me. One of my friends has a cough ( the kind that lingers for a while) and an employee said my friend was throwing up in the bathroom, but really she was coughing. The security guard walks over to us and tells us we have to leave because someone said my friend was throwing up.

We told him she wasn't, she was coughing. He kept rudely saying that she was and he knew better. So, we asked for our money back since we didn't get a chance to have our drinks and left.

There's no customer service at this place. Whether or not my friend was throwing up, you treat people with courtesy. He didn't ask whether she was o.k., just told her to get out like she was a dog...
