This is a quaint little restaurant nuzzled between a hair/manicure shop and a chiropractic office - you have to keep an eye out for it or you could miss it. I chose to eat here based on reviews and hoped to satisfy my hunger. It is extremely small with almost no room to walk or feel comfortable for that matter. I decided to still give it a chance. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered several types of sushi, soup, and udon. The miso soup was wonderful and had a lot of flavor - I wish I could have ordered a massive bowl of it! The sushi was good but I was not too impressed. I really expected more from a Santa Monica Sushi Restaurant where seafood is part of its culture. The udon was not worth the 20 min wait. The broth was sad with no flavor, the noodles were tasteless, and the tempura was not fresh. I was very disappointed in the meal. Besides the miso soup and a few types of sushi I was let down. With the restaurant being so small it was also an occurring nuisance of customers and waiters constantly hitting the back of my chair as they walked behind me - the restaurant is that small. I'm sad to say I did not get the great experience as others did.
Also before coming to the restaurant I wanted to see what their menu was. Google took me to their main website. However, when you get to the menu page and choose an option like "Soups" or "Nigiri" to see what they offer the next page is always an error or is unavailable. I found this to be a little frustrating as almost every other restaurant in the area has a fully functioning website with menu and...
Read moreThis was close too and should have been great but a few little things let it down unfortunately. The rice is not quite right, not sure if its down to the rice vinegar but as another reviewer has stated the rice is basically mushy and not firm ("springy" as they've put it). Also I think the sushi just lacks basic flavouring... Again possible down to the rice vinegar. The quality of the ingredients seem excellent and the attentiveness to the rolls is spot on like I say there is just something lacking. If you know your sushi and love your sushi 😍🍣 like me, then you will notice. Also we ordered like 4 rolls, and some sashimi and they gave us 3 measly sachets of soy. Honestly why do restaurants do this sometimes, I even asked if there was a lot of soy sauce in the bag... "yes there is". NO!!! NO THERE ISN'T!!!!!! 😂😂😭😭😂😂 Also if you're gonna go for it avoid the avocado rolls as they are about 60% avocado, again, it's just "mush" it totally spoils the whole point of what sushi is...
Read moreSushi spot with lunch specials close to the metro stop. Came here on a Thursday for lunch with a coworker around 11:30am. There were two other tables occupied when we got there but it was pretty empty (all indoor seating). We split some edamame and ordered from the lunch special menu. I got the 2 P.C. hand roll combination which also came with miso soup, salad, and a croquette. I liked the croquette more than I thought I would - it came piping hot and had a soft, creamy middle. The miso soup was also good and not too salty. For the hand rolls, I got the spicy tuna and the salmon. They were pretty generous with the fish portion provided. The seaweed got a bit soggy but the rice to fish ratio was good. I preferred the salmon over the spicy tuna. They let you split the bill with and take credit cards. Street parking is hard so park in the...
