Flounder Chowder House: A Taco-Lover’s Dream on the Gulf
If you're anywhere near the coast and craving something memorable, make your way to Flounder Chowder House—this place is a hidden gem. I visited over the Fourth of July weekend, and even with the holiday crowds in the area, our dining experience was smooth, easygoing, and packed with flavor.
The moment we arrived, the warm and friendly staff made us feel right at home. The service was flawless—attentive without being overbearing, with just the right balance of professionalism and relaxed charm. You could tell these folks love what they do, and it showed in every interaction.
Now, let’s talk food—because this is where Flounder Chowder House truly shines. I went all in with a trio of tacos: Baja, shrimp, and tuna—and each one was a knockout in its own right. The Baja tacos were bold and satisfying, with a crispy texture and zesty slaw that packed a punch without overwhelming the palate. The shrimp tacos were grilled to perfection—juicy, a little smoky, and bursting with Gulf flavor. But the tuna tacos stole the spotlight: lightly seared, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and paired with just the right touch of sauce and seasoning. Each bite felt like it was crafted with care and precision.
The atmosphere added to the charm—clean, inviting, and casual without feeling basic. It was the kind of place where you could relax with friends, watch the sunset, and enjoy a truly quality meal. Despite the holiday weekend, everything ran smoothly and never felt chaotic.
From the food to the friendly service, Flounder Chowder House delivered on every level. Whether you're a local or just passing through for the holiday, this spot should be on your list. Great tacos, great vibes, and a meal that won’t soon...
Read moreAnother fun and delicious place to eat while in Pensacola Beach. The atmosphere is very fish driven. Looks like it would be a blast in better weather. The place is absolutely huge and holds people in various and sundry areas to eat and drink and play. I ordered a margarita on the rocks. It was OK. Nothing spectacular but reasonably good. Our order for appetizers seemed a bit pricey, but when they arrived at the table and we’re enough for 4 to 6 people each, we definitely understood why. I had ordered the Calamari. It was delicious. It had a very light batter and was fried to golden perfection. It came with marinara sauce . I would suggest maybe they consider offering ranch too? Hubby ordered the Fried Cheese Sticks and Curds. Another humongous, serving with marinara sauce on the side. We enjoyed these appetizers, but didn’t even make it through half of them before being so full we decided to order an entrée and split it. A Fried Grouper Po’ Boy ended up being our entrée. It was beautifully presented with tomato, lettuce, pickle and onion. On the side was a huge pile of fries coded in the lightly spice better. They were delicious. (I had to try one.) But after all those appetizers we each barely were able to eat, half the sandwich and none of the fries. Next time, no appetizers because I am dying to try their stuffed grouper. It looked fabulous. !!!! They have drink specials every day and lots of adult beverages to enjoy!!! I believe our server’s name was Jennifer. She was great and checked on us frequently. We tried to be especially conscious of leaving quality tips for the these servers, especially knowing that high season is over. Overall, a good experience we...
Read moreIs six stars an option? From the hostess to the bartenders and wait staff, everyone here was welcoming, friendly and happy. The atmosphere is second to none, while we waited for our table, the kids played on the playground and we got drinks from the bar. Before we know it, our table was ready.
We got sat right next to the playground, so the kids got to keep playing while we ordered and waited. The only "knock" on this place is how incredibly fast the service was. Alexia was our server and she was amazing, really a top tier server. She had our drinks out quickly then almost as soon as we ordered our meals, they were on the table. It was so fast the kids barely got to play on the playground!
The drinks were tasty and the fish was chefs kiss, incredible. My wife had the popcorn shrimp and that was SO good, I could eat 100 of them.
Without hesitating we looked at each other and agreed, we'll be back for dinner tomorrow night. We all left happy, full and excited to come back.
Edit: So we went back the next night, because when food and service is THAT good, why bother going anywhere else. With the bar so high I really didn't think they could beat it, but our server the second night was Mike R and he took the bar to the next level.
Simply put the food is amazing, but the service is even better. I can't speak highly enough about this place.
Pensacola Beach has been an incredible vacation, we didn't know what to expect going into it, but when you have experiences like we've had at Flounder's really helps cement it as a place we have to return to...
