My wife and I have been here 5-6 times now...The food, staff, and atmosphere are all quite good, which is why we've kept coming back. It's also nice to have something a bit different to choose from if you're in the downtown area and you can also get delivery through Dash/Grub.
Notably, there are several quality gluten free options--which is great for my wife. And, they're all just as good as anything that isn't available GF--which is a plus.
Appetizers: The ceviche is always very good, with high quality fish and accompanying plantain chips. We order it every time! The octopus is also outstanding. Hard to go wrong...
Cocktails: They have a very fun cocktail menu with local and Peruvian inspirations. They're always made very well, with something for everybody to choose from...It's probably one of the better cocktail menus in the downtown area, but largely because it's its own thing. Definitely come just to try a couple (or three).
Main courses: Every entrée we've had has been fantastic...High quality ingredients, cooked well, and amazing Peruvian dishes with fantastic flavors. We've eaten quite a few options from the menu and I can't think of anything that we didn't rave about...
I would say the only downside about the menu is the price, but in our opinion everything has always been well worth it. The atmosphere and staff and good downtown location add to the value.
Conclusion: A great date-night location with great food...
Read moreMy boyfriend took me here to celebrate my 24th birthday, on a Monday. We arrived close to closing time around 8pm, we never felt rushed throughout our dinner. What caught my eye right away was how vibrant and clean the restaurant was, the atmosphere was so beautiful. The waitress who helped us was very sweet and polite she helped us navigate through the menu because it was our first time trying Peruvian food. We first ordered drinks and the bartender made them delicious, she was also very nice and helped me order another drink. We then ordered our appetizer, the Parmesan scallops tasted fresh and the cheese was delicious. Our next course was our main entree we both ordered the same meal and the beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection it was so juicy and when I cut through it was medium rare, my boyfriend and I both agreed that we’ve never tasted anything better, the huancania was creamy and flavorful. We then ordered dessert, we chose the tres leches and it was moist, delicious, and sweet, they even added a drizzle over the plate and we cleaned our plate we wanted more. Once we were done we happened to be the last customers there and we had the honor to meet the chef and owner he was so sweet and seemed like a family man. Our experience was perfect I have no complaints the presentation of everything we received was gorgeous, the who vibe of the restaurant was very authentic. We can’t wait to...
Read moreOverall, our experience here was very good. We love Ayawaska, so we came into dinner with high expectations.
The decor inside is lovely. The tile floor is exquisite, and the rest of the restaurant is very clean and modern. The long wooden bench we sat on wobbled every time anyone down the line moved at all, so that wasn’t too comfortable, though.
The service was a slow, relaxed pace, perfect for a romantic evening.
The drinks were all fantastic. Presentation was attractive and the flavors were out of this world - the chinchanita was our favorite!
My wife and I both absolutely loved the empanadas. She also really liked the wontons (tequeños), but I wasn’t terribly impressed. I got the Mixto and loved it. She got the aji de gallina, and it was almost like chicken slop on rice. It was surprisingly bland, mushy, and unappealing visually. That meal was a huge swing and miss.
The cost of the meal was also high enough that we might not give it a second try. Four drinks, two apps, and two meals was $160 not including the tip. It’s a value-for-the-price concern for us there. If the food blew us away, we wouldn’t care. But a couple items definitely did not, so that’s a big cost for a less than stellar total experience.
