Would have given the restaurant five stars, but the service from my waitress what's beyond bad. I eat here a couple of times a year when I'm visiting the hotel next door and look forward to the food. The food this time was excellent. Now to talk about the service. As I travel four nights a week I more often than not eat alone. Tonight was no exception, and the restaurant was very busy. Once I was seated my server was prompt and friendly and took my beverage order, I had tea and asked for additional lemons. I received my drink place my appetizer order and my entree order at the same time oh, the appetizer arrived about 10 minutes later, with the meal arriving about 20 minutes after I ordered it. Perfect timing, unfortunately from the time I received my tea until I receive my entree no refill was offered even though my drink glass was empty when the appetizer was given to me. My server's response was you've been thirsty. I ate my meal and about halfway through was out of tea but my server was busy waiting on tables and ignored me. The bus staff cleared the table for me with the exception of my tea glass and bowl of lemons. I waited for 20 minutes for my server to bring my check, when she didn't but did come by and asked if I wanted dessert I declined the desert and she looked at the bowl of lemons that were remaining and said you asked for a bowl of lemons and you didn't choose any. I was stunned but was able to reply had you come by to refill my tea glass more than one time I would have used more lemon. Her replied to me then was he should have hollered at me. Took several more minutes for her to bring my check and a couple of more minutes after that for her to bring me my copy of the bill. All in all a very good meal ruined my poor service. I will of course go back but ask for a...
Read moreAfter a long week of work I decided to take my wife out for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day a bit early. She had been wanting to try Captain's Quarters and this seemed like just the occasion.
As we entered my wife was immediately told by the hostess, "We're not taking any more people." My wife and I returned to the car and the older couple that pulled in behind us were getting out. Seeing that they didn't get around as easy as my wife and I, I tried to save them the steps to the restaurant. I asked if the had reservations. They replied that they did not. I told them that they weren't taking any more customers. They decided to take the walk and see for themselves. I decided to wait and see if they came back out while doing an internet search for another nice restaurant nearby. When the folks did not return after 10 minutes I decided to go back in, by myself.
The couple had been seated. At first the hostess tried to lie to me and tell me the couple had reservations. When I explained my interaction with the couple in the parking lot she changed her story and said they took a seat at the bar. When I asked why that was not an option for my wife and I and why we were turned away so quickly, she had no response. I am white and my wife is black. The other couple were a "normal" white couple. I guess some restaurants can still pick and choose who they're going to serve. I did promise the hostess that I'd pray for her this weekend at church.
We ended up driving to Summerville, about 50 minutes away, and enjoyed an awesome meal at the Carolina Crab House. If you don't want to travel that far, The Lake House is only about a 7 minute drive on the other side of Lake Marion. I'd...
Read moreWe were impressed by all of the signs on the doors about following CDC guidelines, and seeing the staff in masks as we entered. However, our first table was behind another couple. This was too close for comfort, so we asked to sit elsewhere. We were taken to a side room, where a party of 7 was seated next to the table we were given. We didn''t have the presence of mind to ask for a table farther away, & across the room. We're we being punished for asking to be socially distanced? We sat and ordered, keeping our masks on until our salads & fresh bread were brought to us.
Our waitress was personable, attentive, and efficient. We had a lot to choose from, as the menu was extensive, including four daily specials. I ordered the angel hair pasta with salad and garlic bread. Husband got popcorn shrimp with salad and fries. The salad was crisp and delicious. The bread was not warm, but tasted good.
The spaghetti was good - I'm glad it was more bland than spicy since my stomach is sensitive. The garlic bread was average. Husband enjoyed his steak fries and popcorn shrimp - no leftovers. However he mentioned that he could have prepared the same meal at home using items from the freezer. He also makes better spaghetti and sauce - but we were on vacation and not home.
Our bill was only $36 (just one drink), but we ordered two of the least expensive items on the menu. Other items were too steep for our budget. We remembered to tip well, as the service was excellent - better than the food. All things considered, it was a...
