Sarasota Bakehouse — Restaurant in Sarasota

My husband and I had a destination wedding in Boca Grande, Florida, but were staying/having our celebration dinner in Sarasota. Somehow, despite months of planning, we had TOTALLY forgotten about needing a cake (stress levels were high, obviously), and were kind of freaking out about finding a place that could accommodate, despite it being a small order, our needs. The owners of Sarasota Bakehouse were AMAZING, alleviating all of our fears and worries in one foul swoop, answering all of our questions, and accommodating our order on fairly short notice (only about 48-72 hours notice). They confirmed everything with us, and even made sure I provided a photograph of my end-goal appearance for the cake. And OH.MY.GOD. WHAT A CAKE! It was absolutely one of the most delicious things my husband and I had ever eaten, as as a matter of fact, we may or may not have sat on the bed in our hotel room, after all of the celebrations had finished for the evening, eating it with our bare hands. Thank you guys, SO MUCH, for making everything so easy for us and making us one of the most delicious baked goods either of us had ever tasted! Richard was great and told me about the cupcakes and I tried a few of the flavors. I was very excited to order a cake for my son and with the ordering process that great service changed... I was asking questions about the decoration and the lady helping me was more interested in taking my card number. I tried to ask about what can be done and told her my idea- she told me that for my idea it would be an additional cost and reminded me that "it is a business after all" so dont expect more than the minimum unless you are willing to pay for simple. When cutting the cake I realized that the 8in cake I ordered was only a 6in cake with 2 inches of heavily slathered icing. I was very disappointed as it didn't taste good (it was dry and the filling was very much like an artificial flavor). The cake was nothing like the cupcakes. I wanted to say a huge "THANK YOU" to Vincent at Sarasota Bakehouse. I received an email from the Ritz on Saturday...6 days before my son's wedding...that their machine was broken and they could not make the groom's cake. I live in SC and arrived in Sarasota on Monday night and was at the bakery Tuesday after speaking to Vincent. He was more than willing to help me out by making not one, but TWO cakes for my son's wedding and he only had 3 days to do it. My son and his wife are gluten free and vegan and this by far was the best tasting gluten free/vegan dessert I have eaten. I wouldn't have known these cakes were gluten free/vegan cakes if I hadn't been the one to order them. We also took some cupcakes with us and those were delicious as well!!
