Came to this quaint little restaurant while on vacation with my family. We arrived around 2 in the afternoon. I had a steak sub while my wife had a cheeseburger. My children only wanted fries and had orange juice with lids.
The positives: the sandwiches tasted pretty good. The portion sizes were generous. The waitress was polite and attentive. The beverages ordered for my children had lids. When my youngest spilled her water, the waitress appeared almost immediately with heavy duty paper towels.
The negatives: The restaurant seemed very unsanitary. Garbage littered the floor, and flies were in abundance and constantly pestering to get on our food. My daughter was served orange juice with a fly in it. The fries were served cold and made me feel nauseous when I tried them.
All in all, the food and service was great, however the uncleanliness of the restaurant and apparent lack of concern for the flies all over the place (and in the food) was disgusting enough for my appetite to vanish. I eventually just pushed my plate away. We left and about 20 minutes later my appetite returned. We dined elsewhere for our second attempt at a late lunch.
I would expect an eating establishment at a popular vacation destination to have higher standards than what we experienced. The restaraunt was not busy as there was only one other couple dining while we were there. No attempts were made to clean the garbage off the floor or to ward of flies while we were there.
I highly recommend eating here if you enjoy eating flies in a filthy...
Read moreheard about this place from someone in town and i am visiting for a short time with my friend. we went for cheap, good food and walked an hour to get there. we were strongly disapointed. my friend ordered Rueben sandwich ($7.99) with fries. i got a milkshake, mozza sticks, and a half pasta dinner ($8.49). to start, my friend's sandwich was missing basic things that are suppose to be put into it, also very small (smaller than a slice of wonder bread). the fries he got were obviously cheap frozen ones, and looked undercooked as well (they charged an extra $2.49 for them). the mozzarella sticks (5.99 for 5) were hard to eat (overcooked) and flavourless, probably frozen as well. the marinara with the sticks tasted old. my pasta was okay. but it lacked in flavour, i could tell the sauce was pretty watered down. we were very unhappy with the food. the milkshake however was really good, and my friend liked his raspberry iced tea as well. still its sad we paid so much and invested so much time on a meal we didnt enjoy. was not worth the $32 we paid for it. espspecially consodering how tight we...
Read moreWe stopped in here after standing on the sidewalk trying to decide where to eat. After seeing several of the locals (assuming by their license plates) pull up and file in around lunchtime we decided to give it a try. There's no flashy sign, no bright colors on the exterior, no tourist-attracting window art of Great Lakes freighters. Inside is much of the same simplistic approach. No music, no festive coordinated decor or silly uniforms worn by the staff. All that is going to pull you into Frank's is the expectation of good food and a menu with lots of variety of home-cooked foods.
The portions are very generous and the prices are fair. The fried chicken was very good and came with the soup and salad bar that featured a good, hearty chili. Our waitress was helpful and gave good recommendations to us, a couple of tourists trying out Frank's for the first time.
In short, walk right past the other food spots who try to lure you in with the other tourists with their bright signs and follow the locals who know the area into Frank's for...
