First, the positives. Everything we tried at Copita tasted amazing - the food was certainly delicious (we had: chips & guac, papas bravas, tres al pastor tacos, carne asada tacos, & 24 Hour carnitas).
It was kinda a bummer that a Mexican place charges for chips and salsa, though ...
Every dish was very small in portion size - we came for lunch and so the portion I received was sufficient for me (we had chips and guac to start) but my husband was desperately hungry after his meal and had to order two additional items to feel satisfied (my husband is active and in fairness he does eats more than your average person, however, I cannot recall one time, ever, that he has needed to order an additional entree because he was still, THAT hungry -- and in this case he needed an entree + an appetizer extra).
The atmosphere was alluring which is what drew us in - we were one of the first customers, but the restaurant filled up so fast - it quickly became uncomfortable because the tables are so close together (too close). Guests being seated at tables next to us were bumping our table with their backsides (awkward and uncomfortable for everyone).
The service was mediocre (empty water glasses, waiting/looking around for our server to order, etc..)
Lastly, it was disappointing how strictly they adhere to opening precisely at 11:30 - when clearly they could have sat a couple who was sitting in the entry-way waiting to come in... The hostess knew they were waiting and then at exactly 11:30 another party walked up and she decided to seat them before the couple waiting. It was highly inconsiderate on her part - she should have asked the couple waiting if they would like to be seated (she knew they were waiting because when they arrived a few minutes before 11:30 she turned them away, to which they sat right there in the entryway). When it was our turn to be seated, the hostess was not warm and inviting (no smile or warmness in demeanor) which was a disappointment. It would have been nice to see her smile...
Read moreGreat location. Went in after work to meet 2 friends already eating at the bar. They had ceviche I believe which looked delicious along with margaritas. Bar wasn't full and dining room was pretty empty around 5pm.
Hostess was a young blonde who looked bored and didn't want to be there. But she said hi at least.
Young caucasian Male bartender was working and training Hispanic girl to bartend as well. I stood there behind My friends seated at the bar, waiting to be greeted for the longest 18min Ever! Not good as this was the first time I had set foot into this establishment. Finally, the bartender asked, "Can I get you anything?". After standing for that long without being greeted, I WASN'T interested in the menu anymore. No sale that day.
However, observing the surroundings and noticed the Manager on duty ( Long curly haired blonde girl) was standing with 4 other staff behind the counter where there's an oven. They were hanging out there eating, joking and in plain sight of the restaurant patrons.
The Head Chef was now at the host stand showing the hostess something on his phone while customers kept walking by the restaurant. Whose supervising the cooks and the food? No wonder this place is empty. Chef should be working on new dishes or something not messing around. Only one waitress was working hard on the patio.
Whoever is really in charge needs to reevaluate everything and see who's not pulling their weight. Too much leniency here. Love to see this place thrive but maybe one day after the kinks...
Read moreUnfortunately our experience here was disappointing. I was so excited to try Copita because I have celiac and it is so frustrating to have to ask questions about allergy safety and cross contamination protocols every time I try to eat at a restaurant. They advertise as 100% gluten free which is why I immediately got nervous when the couple at the table next to us were drinking regular glutinous beers. After looking at Find Me Gluten Free, many other restaurants in Sausalito have great celiac safety ratings and next time we will dine elsewhere. That being said the food didn’t get me sick and tasted fine but it was absolutely drowning in grease. I felt a different kind of ill after our meal because of how much oil was pooling around the dish. The worst part was the service which was honestly very poor. We asked to sit outside and they tucked us away into the corner where we were ignored for a while. We ordered chips with our entrees and they forgot to add them onto our order. After getting up to find an employee not once, not twice but THREE times they finally brought us chips after the other two people in our party had already finished their meals. The server said she’d take it off our bill for the inconvenience and of course once I got up for a fourth time to find someone to bring the bill, they tried to charge us for the chips and looked at me like I was a piece of garbage when I said we’d already been told it wouldn’t be on the bill. Nobody asked how our food was or thanked us for...
