I was super excited to come here, as I heard rave reviews from friends. Well, I don't know if we showed up to the right place, or it was just "Bring your loud, entitled child to dinner" Night...
Location, amazing! The view of the bay and paddle boarders going by is a charming warm and romantic setting.
Menu - It is Farm to Table, local suppliers, so I love supporting that.
the Mmmeh! part of it: Seating: It has a weird flow to it. They should have hired me, or anyone of that matter to Feng Shui this place. You walk in and there's a big menu on the wall, followed by a register and bar to order food and drink, and then tables (mostly long tables width-wise). Kind of beer garden style, but that makes sense since this is the sister property of a brewery in Mill Valley. So as we're standing there, looking at the menu (on the wall), and 2 people very quickly walked by us to go straight to the register... Now we're feeling rushed just to get an order in, before more people cut in front of us.
If there were menus on the tables, then maybe we could have felt comfortable taking our time. But as it was, this is the first restaurant where I'm about to drop some significant coin on food, and I'm feeling like the guy who's asking to explain what animal-style is in front of 20 In n Out customers... A little dramatic, but I'd like to take time to feel grounded in the place before I order my food. (Probably why most restaurants seat you first before taking your order.)
So here comes the food. Wow! That was fast. Literally 5 min in a restaurant that's pretty busy, where probably 5 people ordered just before us. Let's enjoy this scrumptious delicacy of farm to table ingredients with lightly massaged local radishes and manually burped pickles (a lil’ hyperbole, but you know what key words they use...)
It came out fast for a reason: No love in it, and was put together clumsily.
Burger - small, greasy, wet, messy. We always share everything we get, so I felt really pissed that my half went too quickly. Moreover that I HAD to eat that quickly as it fell apart in my hands with sauce, juice, and grease. The added bacon was really good though. Mediterranean salad - very sad lettuce, veggies that appeared of the same color, so no pops of color. Overall, the blandest salad I've eaten in a long time. My wife said there was an olive in there somewhere, but I never got a taste of salt. It said there were walnuts in it, but I counted the crunch of a walnut maybe twice in my eating. But the worst part in my mind was the dressing. My wife says it was like a creamy goddess-style dressing. I’d call it a dill vinaigrette that was missing vinegar. There was no tang, salt, lemon, bitter, sharpness, nothing... just a hint of dill and oil.
I’m sure this place would be good for happy hour, a large gathering, or just to get some beers. But if you have a desire to just enjoy a night out with the Mrs., I’ll suggest somewhere...
Read moreWe visited here after reading very good reviews. I am vegetarian but have lactose intolerance, this is not a lifestyle choice but I always order vegan. The only thing available was the falafel sandwich which was absolutely fine. This came with tzatziki so I asked for this to be changed to hummus. No problem they said. I asked for fries and asked if the are vegan, the said yes. I asked can you check (because of my lactose intolerance) they eventually came back and said they are cooked in the same fryer as the chicken. Again no problem as they have told me. So no fries for me. I then asked about the nachos and guac, she said this was vegan. I paid. I asked the lady if she could check. She went over and all of the kitchen staff were shaking their head at me and laughing. Very rude! She then came back out and said it wasn't vegan so I had to get a refund. When our food came out I mentioned there was no hummus or the Avacado I had ordered. The waiter said this would cost $12! When I said this was a simple swap - a table spoon of hummus from the tzatziki he wasn't having it. So I said leave it then. I tried to speak to another waiter he simply walked off. So a series of events where a lot of staff were rude and unprofessional. Completely unacceptable. Having a vegan dish on the menu is pretty basic if I'm honest. I was not rude or unreasonable but the service I received was. The 'beer hall' statement was not at all true either, hardly any beers.
On a positive note the hazy beer we had was really good and my husband's half a chicken was good. A nice place to sit too.
What a shame! I am not unreasonable but being laughed at and humiliated is completely unacceptable and if I'm honest really upset me.
Editing this shortly after as I've had a lactose reaction so I'm even more annoyed that I was treated badly but have still been contaminated which has ruined my entire week on holiday which I have looked forward to all...
Read moreA great place to enjoy the docks and bay that's far away enough from the heart of downtown Sausalito (but still within walking distance) so you can limit the crowds and eat and relax with a pint or two in peace and a view. We went on a Saturday (9/17) around noon. The place was not crowded but by the time we left, there was a line at the door. I had the Porchetta Sandwich and a dark beer named "Death and Taxes", now with a name like that who can resist, but seriously though! My son had the Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and we both shared sides of french fries and brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious, not that it knocked our sox off, but it was what it was suppose to be and that's asking a lot these days! The brussel sprouts were exceptional though, yea either you love brussel sprouts or you hate them, I'm in the former camp. Probably deserving of a good 4 stars in most places, but our waitress was especially pleasant with a huge smile and very hospitable when she brought our food to our table, again, that's asking a lot these days! She later saw me struggling to take a full view selfie of my son and me with food and fabulous background, and without me even asking, she came over with her pleasant wide smile and offered her photographic expertise, the photo came out perfect. Sorry I didn't get your name, but a big shout out to you, our waitress with the long dark hair and huge welcoming smile who turned this 4 star review into a 5 star review! A definite must go restaurant for some relaxation, view, food, and beer - and all the while, as the song goes, .....sitting on the...
