"Shuk is a true hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Savannah's more frequented dining spots. While its location may require a bit of navigation and patience to find parking, the absence of paid parking fees only adds to the allure of this culinary haven. As we stepped into Shuk, we were immediately struck by the luxurious ambiance that enveloped us, transporting us to a world of Mediterranean elegance and charm. Our journey to Shuk was prompted by a friend's recommendation, and from the moment we walked through the door, we knew we were in for a treat. The attentive staff welcomed us warmly, guiding us through the menu with expertise and enthusiasm. The restaurant's decor exuded sophistication, with plush furnishings and subtle lighting creating an inviting atmosphere that begged us to linger. Our meal began with the whipped feta, a divine creation that left us speechless with its creamy richness and subtle tang. For our main courses, I opted for the pita bread with falafel protein, while my wife chose the bowl with her choice of protein or falafel. Each dish was a work of art, meticulously prepared and bursting with vibrant flavors that danced on our palates. To complement our meal, we couldn't resist trying the harissa chili paste sauce on the side. The intense heat of the harissa was perfectly balanced by its deep, smoky undertones, adding a bold kick to our already delicious dishes. It quickly became clear that no visit to Shuk would be complete without sampling this tantalizing condiment. As we savored each bite and soaked in the luxurious ambiance, it became evident why Shuk is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates Mediterranean cuisine done right. Despite its secluded location, the journey to Shuk is well worth the effort, offering an unforgettable dining experience that lingers in the memory long after the last bite has been savored. We left Shuk feeling nourished, satisfied, and eager to return for another taste of its...
Read moreAfter eagerly awaiting the opening of this Israeli eatery in Savannah, I went for breakfast on opening day and it was worth the wait!
First of all, it is handy that they have a couple of their own parking spaces right by the building. Second of all, this eatery is conveniently located in Savannah’s Victorian District close to several other eateries in the area. The premises are bright, airy, spacious and inviting. The staff are friendly, helpful and passionate about the food they serve.
The menu itself is delightfully authentic and unique compared to other Mediterranean eateries in the area. I am impressed at the large number of vegetarian and vegan dishes. The beverages range from coffees to teas to wines to cocktails (in the evening).
I am told Shuk is more of a breakfast and brunch place, but they do serve some delicious looking small plates after 5 pm. I chose the Israeli breakfast and what a delightful contrast it was to many of the other southern-style brunch places in the area. Healthy, balanced (with a nice amount of protein thanks to the pickled feta, chickpeas in the hummus and yogurt dip). Everything is beautifully spiced and literally bursting with flavor.
They even have a selection of their house-made pastries, and I couldn’t resist taking home some of the bourekas.
In conclusion, I will most definitely be back. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality of food, and there are so many things I would like to try on the menu. I have traveled extensively and I am a true foodie, so I know authentic Mediterranean food when I try it. This is the real deal. Shuk deserves to go far, and I have no doubt it will with its combination of friendly and efficient staff, beautiful atmosphere and flavorful food. The fact that everything went so smoothly on their opening day bodes very well for things to come! Congratulations on this much needed addition to Savannah’s...
Read moreFood was really good and fresh. We ordered a hummus bowl which was served with a sliced carrot, tomatoes and cucumber, as well as a rather nice sized pita. Ordered a second pita and it was a perfect sized snack for my wife and I to share over cocktails. We came for seasonal beverages off the holiday menu. Drinks were expertly mixed. As it was our first trip, we were a bit disappointed that no one directed us to the bar which is hidden in a separate room through a door in the back of the cafeteria, even though we asked the woman at the register where we go to order seasonal cocktails. We found the bar afterwards and it looked cute and decorated, which was what we wanted. Too bad we enjoyed our drinks in the very sterile, almost hospital feeling cafeteria side. It was very confusing where to order as staff did their best to avoid eye contact and literally walk past us multiple times while we were trying to order food and drinks (after sending us to two different areas to put our order in ultimately ending at the front deli counter area not the bar) and when we finally got someone they didn't seem to know how to work the register. Thank goodness for one very helpful employee who came over to help and deliver our food. I believe it was an isolated holiday staffing issue and would absolutely go back again. The expertise on the food and drink wonderfully surprised us and I can't wait to try some other...
