Minnie Bird — Restaurant in Schaumburg Township

We came in today for dinner and I think overall did like it, however there are some quirks I think that need to be mentioned.

Order at a kiosk is awesome, except for someone like myself who would like to make modifications. So many options, but I really wish they would allow modifying the sides - like it would be great to get all coleslaw no fries for example. Would’ve loved an option to change your fries to curds for an extra dollar too! Total meal cost was around $30 for everything you’ll see pictured.

My boyfriend and I bought the dirty sodas - something to note is there’s no refills and it costs $2.49 on top of your combo to get. Totally okay, but wish we knew that ahead of time. I got the summertime and he got the root beer float and we both enjoyed them. We would’ve loved an option to say no/little/half on ice since they filled it with so much!

Drinks are given first from the drink counter (there’s also water & the ice cream machine in the same area).

A while later, food is ready and we can pick up sauces. Arguably, one of the best features is picking out your sauces and I’m happy to see there’s containers to fill as many as you’d like to try. I enjoyed the ones we did try.

Upon eating my meal, I found that my chicken in general was very hard to chew through. It was kinda slippery/rubbery? It was clearly tender but I almost had to tear through the chicken myself first before being able to eat it. The breading was just falling off my tenders. I probably should’ve taken a picture, but my hands were quite oily. My boyfriend’s tenders lost a lot of breading to the sauce. Our curds and fries were good, I enjoyed the slaw but my boyfriend didn’t care as much for it. Toast was a great texture but it’s literally buttered toast with no seasoning so don’t expect anything super exciting.

Before leaving, we headed over to the soda counter for our free ice cream. The girl at the counter ignored my boyfriend twice to call out an order number. I then asked her for ice cream and then she got it for us, lol. We got our ice cream offered in a cup or cone and we chose cups. Really tasty, unexpected it was all orange creamsicle flavored since their online menu showed a swirl with vanilla. There was no offer of flavor, so I don’t know if this is always the flavor/if vanilla isn’t working. No idea.

I know we will be back to try the remaining items on the menu, but I don’t know how frequently I would come back if I can’t make more customizations. I hope I just had a weird situation with my chicken, I don’t understand what was wrong with it. I think you should check it out, just keep all these things in mind! I’ll update my rating the next time I go, because if the chicken is still weird I don’t think I can rate higher. I’ll happily come back for a dirty...

Chicken Sandwiches are pretty darn good. The bun had a good flavor I think it was a potato bun.. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Has a sweet honey glaze and wasn't very spicy, I got the spicy pimento cheese sandwich HOT and wasn't that spicy. Which is what I wanted. Now the next sandwich I know I can get it a bit hotter. My only criticism of the sandwich is that they don't center the chicken and instead have it wrapped in a way where most of the chicken is stuck out one side and the scoop of the pimento cheese was out towards all that chicken. Now if I wasn't paying attention or if I didn't have OCD to have my sandwich toppings layered evenly, I could've had all that cheese in one bite and be disappointed in the rest of the sandwich. Lol No biggie just an extra step before chowing down.. The dirty soda list is pretty massive with new flavors added often. The two I tried where ok. An Orange Popsicle one and a Mr.Pib Coconut one. Just tasted like too much sugar. They have skinny sodas and refreshers as well.. I also got a tender meal and cheese curds Togo.. The tenders didn't come with the same glaze as the sandwich for some reason and we're pretty spicy being just Hot. I recommend eating there as the food just hits better when it's pipping hot and crispy. Fries don't hold long. The Curds were good. Small order for a little price, should add a large size for us fatties..... Also they have free ice cream! A peach, vanilla, or peach vanilla swirl that totally hits!! It's a soft serve that's not the creamy consistency but the icey texture, think Wendy's frosty... So great! The Customer service was nice the kids working there were polite, can't really ask for much more. I'm just not the biggest fan of being forced to order through a portal. It was my first time there so I had questions that I had to figure out myself (I could've asked but there was a line) It was Noonish on a Saturday, there were no places to sit but by the time our food came there was an open table and decided to stay. Again food tastes better at the restaurant.. Overall was glad I stopped, paid $50 something for a sandwich meal add a dirty soda,a four piece tender meal add a DS.. and Cheese...

UPDATE: came back on Monday and had a wildly different experience. Got in at 7:15 and was out with my food by 7:30. Sandwich was DELICIOUS. I didnt think there would be such a difference but there really was. Curds and fries are meh but the star of the show are the dirty sodas! Really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere tonight.

Friday Night Review: really wanted to like this place given the reviews and videos all over socials. A few notes to take into consideration:

we waited in line about 15 mins to order (self service ordering) and waited an additional 45-50 mins for the food because the music was so loud and it doesn’t seem there is an intercom system within the restaurant, announcements were made individually to guests that the kitchen was backed up resulting in some people flat out leaving and others like my self not knowing what exactly was going on and waiting and waiting with no real update or response from staff the food: I would sum up the food in one word - mid. It wasn’t the greatest, it wasn’t the worst. So after waiting so long and hoping the food would knock my socks off, I left disappointed and frustrated for having waited so long for food that really did not live up to the hype. the dirty soda: this was by far the best part of tonight’s meal. Had the Hawaiian Dream and it really was something. I’d go back just to try another dirty soda the ice cream: a nice touch given the long wait but not sure if they plan to keep it free forever or if it’s just now as they opened a week ago the atmosphere: nostalgic. Felt like something from my childhood in a good way. Just one note, consider turning down the music a bit. Hard to hear the person you are sitting next to when the music is loud and the room is packed

Closing thoughts - would I try it again? In short, yes if there isn’t a line. I imagine the team was under a lot of stress with a packed house and the staff was young so I’ll give them grace for today. It can be a lot of pressure opening up and having social media paint a picture and then have to live up to it. But, if you are hoping for something sensational, out of this world, extraordinary… this place is good it’s just...
