So we were out in Schererville area today and decided to stop here for lunch. Tomato Bar Schererville has been the worst experience we have had in years.
We walked in and were promptly greeted by the hostess which had told us to give her just a minute to wipe down one of the available booths that had recently been vacant but not wiped down yet. In addition to this table, there were others vacant as well with dishes still left to clean up. Once we were seated I noticed about 3 servers walking about to different tables and yet, within 10 minutes we were never greeted or even acknowledged. I then walked up to the hostess stand and asked her if we had a server and she stated she would get her. Once I walked back to the table , the server had walked up at same time. It was at that point, we ordered our full order, drinks, appetizer and pizzas for us 3. Within about 5 more minutes we had gotten our drinks and then about another minute later we had gotten our appetizer of cheese bread. At about this time I noticed 2 more tables being sat, 1 of them w 4 people and the other with 2 people. . 45 minutes after that, both of those tables had gotten their full dinners with multiple pizzas, etc. , mind you we had given our order to the server an hour ago. . . I then asked for a manager and then she stated that she would see what was going on, then I informed her we were not waiting any longer and we were leaving. . She then told me, ok let me get your bill.. . She then brought me the bill, said, wait a minute let me put a discount on it. . Then brought it back for a total of $10.71 for 3 soft drinks and the cheese bread. I then handed her the cash to pay the bill and walked out. Is this seriously the customer service in the food industry now?
Not only did they ruin all of our lunch, but put a pretty terrible Mothers Day outing in our memories.
Out of the several visits to the Valpo and Crown Point locations, I hope that no one else receives the terrible or lack of, service from the Schererville location. We however, will not be...

Had to wait about 20 minutes to get a seat. Server took our drink orders, did not return with them for at least 10 minutes. We ordered our food at that point, which took a little over 30 minutes to be cooked and delivered to our table. The server did not check in at our table at all during this time, our food was run to us by the manager and another server, but our main server did not check back with us until about 20 minutes AFTER our food arrived, which was the first time she asked if we needed anything. So 50 minutes before asking if we needed refills on drinks or anything, which we had needed long before our food arrived. Not sure why our table was ignored as we observed her checking on a table near us 5-6 times during our stay.
To top this, the food was tasty, but manager refused to substitute vegetables in place of meat at no cost, citing a corporate policy. I'm sorry but we should not be charged $2.90 to substitute green onions for a meat, vegetables are way cheaper. Completely unacceptable and they refused to remove the charge. Oh, and the upgrade to a GF crust was $4.00.
For two personal pizzas (10") and a personal calzone (also 10"), our final bill came to over $60.00. Very overpriced at $20/person for what you get, everything is a la carte so no side salads included or anything like that, which would have been nice considering our wait time.
Can't recommend this restaurant, at the very least not this location. There are better options at a similar price point who are far more attentive and willing to accommodate substitutions...

This location is an open concept for the most part and it was lit pretty bright. It was a bit cold, so I wasnโt too pleased with being comfortable through the duration of my visit, sadly.
I sat down at a booth with my girlfriend and dog. I ordered a Diet Coke and we got a glass of Silver Gate Chardonnay wine, which was a white one. We ordered Bruschetta as an Appetizer and for our main dinner we got a 14โ Magic Potion, which had a Red Sauce Base, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Spinach, Mozzarella, Provolone, Feta, Italian Sausage, Roma Tomatoes, and Pesto Swirl.
The Diet Coke was a good size and unlimited refills. It was good. I didnโt care for the Silver Gate wine too much. It was more on the dry side to me. The Bruschetta had a nice toast to it and it was loaded with tomatoes and cheese! It was alright, but the bread size was on the smaller side. The Magic Potion pizza looked a bit intimidating with all the green going on, but it turned out to be a shocking, delicious piece! I was very surprised by the appeal to taste ratio. I really couldnโt stop eating it. Sadly, I blasted through it and there it was, empty.
The service was pretty good. Our waitress got us everything we needed and she was positive.
Overall, I enjoyed the location in Valparaiso a bit more, but Iโd return here as it is only a few minutes...
