First time visit at the Schereville store, we were elated to only live 5 minutes away. Had 8:15 pm reservation on Saturday evening, got seated immediately which impressed us, but not for long. As we were being seated at a booth, next to an aisle of tables, we couldn't take our coats off because the tables were so close and we feared that we would knock something over on their table or hit someone with our coats before we got into the booth. Also, it was extremely loud and couldn't carry a conversation at our booth, even though we sat right across from each other, most of our conversation was "never mind, I'll tell you later." Waited over 30 minutes for our server to come to our booth, very friendly, however she never asked if we were wine club members, if we wanted a tasting, or brought bread and water. She only asked if we wanted something to drink or an appetizer to order. We ordered the egg rolls and some wine tastings along with a bottle of Sweet Red, which they were out of, so opted for Red Romance. When the wine was brought, the metal wine chiller was disgustingly dirty, it was smeared with what looked like chocolate or brown gravy, I was surprised the server didnt see it. We then also asked for some water and bread. 30 minutes the egg rolls finally come out by a food runner. We love those egg rolls, but they seemed to have been sitting for a while, they were over cooked, dry and slightly warm, we waited for the server to come check, but she never did, we definitely would have expressed our discontent. I ordered the short rib risotto which I've had many times at the Merrillville site, it didn't compare. The portion was much smaller, it was runny, had tiny shreds of short rib and again lukewarm. I will say the best thing I had was the dessert, the S'more Boudino. My sister ordered dessert to go, the Banoffee pie, what a joke, looked nothing like it should have if you ordered at tableside. It was less than half of what you'd get. That's when we waived our server over and asked for a manager. He was very nice and apologetic, took the dessert off. When asked is the Banoffee supposed to look like this, he replied no. It literally was in one of those mini tinfoil pie pans with loose Graham cracker crust, no more than 2 tbs of pudding and soupy whip cream. It was not a pleasant experience, and are contemplinating about returning back. Wished pics would have been...

Read moreGNAT INFESTATION!
I drove from Chicago to dine and participate in tastings with a longtime friend who had never been to Cooper’s Hawk. Unfortunately, what was meant to be an enjoyable experience turned out to be extremely disappointing and embarrassing due to a severe gnat infestation at the restaurant. Upon being seated, I immediately noticed a gnat on my menu. At first, I dismissed it as minor, but once our meals arrived, the issue became unavoidable. As soon as my toast hit the table, multiple gnats began hovering around, and one even landed directly on my food. I continuously swatted them away, only to later notice one on my plate as well. Our server, Dezaray (apologies if I’ve misspelled her name), later informed us that the restaurant has been dealing with an ongoing gnat infestation and has “bombed” the building over the past few nights to address it. When we asked to speak with a manager (whose name I unfortunately did not catch), she confirmed that this issue has been persistent but stated that they were told by the state it was acceptable to remain open because “the gnats are not in the kitchen.” Based on what I personally witnessed, I find that hard to believe. In addition to the dining area, the gnats were also present in the tasting room, which made that part of the experience equally unpleasant. For a location that prides itself on its wine-tasting environment, this was especially disappointing and unsanitary. While my meal was eventually comped, I do not feel that was sufficient given the severity of the situation. The experience was disturbing, unsanitary, and not reflective of the quality or standards I’ve come to associate with Cooper’s Hawk. I would appreciate the opportunity to speak directly with someone from your corporate or management team regarding this matter and to better understand how this situation is being handled. I am deeply concerned that this location remains open despite an active infestation. Not only is it unappetizing, but it also raises serious food safety and public health concerns. Guests deserve to be notified prior to dining or tasting if such an issue exists, and I sincerely hope this is...
