We are fans of Golden Corral. We go to the one in Duluth frequently and truly enjoy it. This particular location leaves a lot to be desired. The parking lot is too small for a Golden Corral. The restaurant is too small for a Golden Corral. People were bumping into tables because they were so many folks inside. We kept getting jostled while we were eating. There's no line and the way the serving line is designed. People just walk up in all places and are just bumping into each other. We watched a kid stand in front of the slushie machine, wiping her finger on the nozzle, licking her finger and wiping it on the nozzle repeatedly. All the while, the parents stood by and watched, thinking it was cute. The serving line is smaller than other locations and doesn't have things that are convenient. For instance, the fish is in a separate section from cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. It's a grand adventure to go find it. Our waitress did not give us utensils to eat with. So I walked up to the waitress station and asked another waitress if she could hand me two sets of utensils. She said that she could not and that I would have to get them from my waitress and nobody else. I said, "But they're right there behind you on a tray." She still refused to give me the utensils. I ended up walking to the front of the restaurant and getting them myself.
We got no drink refills for the hour and a half that we were there. Our waitress did not speak to us. All she did is keep picking up dirty plates and never once said a word to us. I understand this is a buffet, but our experience has been much better at other locations.
Back to the child licking the slurpee machine. I notified the manager of the problem. The general manager said in his walkie-talkie that someone needs to sanitize the slurpee machine. In the next 30 minutes. It was not sanitized and people were still getting slurpees after this child had been licking the nozzles.
We will continue to patronize Golden corral but it will be at the Duluth location from now on. This location is on my personal...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by the first time at this location and the first time in a Golden Corral in a while. The price had not increased as much as I expected. Saw they advertised a Christmas Day Buffet for just $18.99. Reasonable for all your choices and it being open on the holiday. Still the same self-serve of joining a queue, grabbing a tray, a drink, and head to cashier. It was busy on a Friday night, but there were plenty of tables. It's a bit dated inside, but that didn't impact experience. Headed straight to the salad bar, my favorite. Instead of rows of toppings, they had grouped things together in different cold bar stations. Took a minute to find everything I wanted, but it did ensure I saw everything they offered. Ingredients were fresh and crisp. For the hot bar, they had so many options- Asain to nachos to steak. I decided to try a small spoonful of items so I could try more. I was honestly surprised at how good everything was. The dressing and gravy, the lima beans, the fresh-off-the-grill steak - all were delicious. I didn’t try anything I didn't like. In fact, my party opted for a little more savory bites of food versus the dessert bar. We actually sat next to the desserts and had a front row view of the cake maker. She must have iced 6 cakes or more while we were there. Taking time to decorate each one just so. I did notice they are now offering icees on the dessert bar that you can take with you. Our server was really attentive and fast to respond to any requests. The only negative was the restroom. Gave it a visit as we were leaving and wish I had not. It was so filthy. Paper and water on the floors, no paper towels and only 1 hand dryer. While this isn't a restaurant chain I usually go to,...
Read moreThis particular Golden Corral on Lawrenceville Hwy on the mall property is popular and busy for good reason. So many options, affordable, convenient, great location! For those of us who love Southern food and want something easy for a good price, this location is great. Because it's managed and staffed really well, the dining experience has always always been smooth and delicious for me, and I've been here multiple times. The buffet is kept clean and the manager actually goes around with the thermometer checking the temperature on the foods regularly to make sure everything is the way it should be and compliant with health codes.
They have Southern staples like DEVILED EGGS, SWEET POTATO MASH, FRIED CHICKEN, CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS, but they also have harder to find things like FRIED LIVER! They have multiple soup options, and as a soup-lover I can tell you the soups are tasty. The salad bar is well stocked and include options like beets and chickpeas. The fried chicken pieces are big portions, and always crispy and never greasy. The steaks are seasoned well hot off the grill, and they're marbled nicely. The dessert bar, if you have room, is always a nice finish. My favorites at the dessert bar are the BANANA CREAM PIE and the warm cobbler that I can put a cold scoop of soft serve on, but there are usually also other equally yummy desserts that both kids and adults can enjoy. I usually have 5 plates of food or more here.
The only negative is probably the bathroom; could be better/cleaner. Overall this is a TERRIFIC VALUE, great staff and management, great location and so convenient, so many options. I always enjoy...
