Wanted to try Caribbean food and had it delivered. Postmate: Very good/on time Beef patties: this was good and wished I had ordered more than 1 to sample. Curry goat: This was okay, but too many bones - some very small. So had to be careful after biting into one of the tiny fragments. Yikes! Chicken "stewed in its juices with vegetables:" This was very dry and too sweet for my liking; and, unlike stewed chicken I have had in the Caribbean. The vegetables were a few rounds of carrots. Could not eat and had to throw out because of the sweet and smoky taste - maybe smoked paprika was used? Regret ordering this dish. For both dishes chose peas and rice: Was expecting peas and rice but, in the main, it was rice - cooked in brown stock- perhaps- and, couldn't see any peas - in Jamaica kidney/red bean is called peas - but, no peas/beans other than, literally - I searched for it-about 4 pieces of red beans. Not the same "rice and beans " known in the Caribbean. Spinach & Calaloo: was hoping it would be the Caribbean dish calaloo with okra etc., but it looked (and tasted) like sauted spinach.Still good, and glad it was not too salty. Not true calaloo! Wished the main entrees were put in separate containers instead of squashed with the rice - suited perhaps for lunch take-outs when outside; but not for dinner at home- not a good sight once delivered. Personally, it was a tad over priced ( for what you get.) However, as I like to support small local businesses, I may order again the patties; try another dish, but I will ask for it to be put in...
Read moreWhile I'm sure the food is good(maybe) We didn't even stay to eat. This place came across unwelcoming and odd atmosphere (and not clean). It took a minute for the staff to sit us, as they were preoccupied talking to a friend? or family member that had stopped by, who they kept talking to while they sat us...I found this pretty darn unprofessional, if this was a hole in the wall, I would have disregarded this. The decor was a strange cross of stuff from a nice restaurant mixed with mostly cheap crap. The pricing for the food seemed out of place. just way too expensive vs how clean the place was set up and the odd furniture mixed with tall glasses for waters... and we couldn't figure out the lunch special which was displayed outside for 6.99. We had asked about the special and he pointed to in the menu, but didn't further elaborate that the price was indeed 6.99 (vs the 12.99 listed in the menu.) Which also weren't very clean. The only plus was that there were about 2 other tables there that were eating, which is always a good sign. But the service took too long to get to us, and didn't bother explaining anything on the menu even when we had asked (nicely of course :) ) I feel bad giving 2 stars without trying the food, but the over all experience and first impression was pretty darn bad... they need to fix up the place, and work on the service. I'm from Tucson, and unfortunately I'll be telling my friends to stray away...
Read moreI was visiting Scottsdale for work and had a serious craving for some food, specifically Jamaican food. Saw the reviews on this place and decided to go. Unfortunately, Caribbean Palm was not the place to satisfy that craving.
The best thing I had was the beef patty. It was flaky, flavorful, and well-seasoned. That was the highlight. But everything went downhill from there.
I ordered the Rasta Pasta with oxtails, and it was the worst I’ve had. When you grow up eating good oxtails, you already have a high standard, and this completely missed the mark. The oxtails lacked the deep, rich flavor they should have, and the dish overall just didn’t deliver. I barely ate anything off my plate because it was that bad. Frankly, I felt sorry for the cow… poor thing died for nothing.
I let the waitstaff know (politely) that I didn’t enjoy the meal and could clearly see the frustration in their response. I still paid for the food, but this experience has unfortunately ruined my perception of food in Arizona, especially when compared to what I can get back home in Texas.
If you’re just looking for a beef patty, you might be fine. But if you’re expecting authentic, well-executed Jamaican flavors, I’d say...
