I had the 3 rib lunch special. The service was great from the older lady who helped me. I saw a younger lady in the back reposition someone's food on their plate using her bare hands. I was anxious to try the greens and macaroni and cheese, but they were out of both. I ended up settling for fries and adding 2 pieces of catfish. My meal came with 3 nice size ribs... however, they were very greasy and flavorless. They taste like they were baked and left soaking in their own grease. When I think of backyard BBQ, as the name suggests, I look forward to tasting a beautiful smoked taste.. at the very least, I want to taste charcoal. The french fries were fried perfectly. The catfish pieces that cost $2 a piece were very good for the price and the size. Keep in mind that they are only $2 a piece, so a fillet 7 inches long by 2 inches wide and an inch thick is a good deal!! The corn muffin that came with the meal was dry. They would be better off making a pan of cornbread and cutting pieces as they need them. That way it won't dry out as fast. The koolaid was good and not over sweetened like most places do. I will say that the amount of food that I was given was a good portion. Its hard to find a place that will give you a lunch special after 3pm for $10 The meal included 3 ribs a side and a drink for $10!! That's a great deal, I just wish that the ribs were better. Its got to taste like back yard bbq. I will definitely give this place a try in the future to see if they have improved on anything. The only reason I am willing to give it another try is because of the great service, and knowing that they were running out of everything makes me wonder if the ribs I received were indeed the last and on the bottom...
Read moreI was hired shortly before Charlies opened and worked there for nearly a month. I completed all of my necessary paperwork was in the payroll system and paid taxes so I thought however my concerns about the food cleaning is the proper food handling and storage were extremely alarming. My suggestions were dismissed and a disrespectful and racist manner making me feel very uncomfortable. This created a hostile work environment. The owner Charlie kept all the tips failed to pay me for my work or reimburse me for the items I purchased.(Pens, dry, erase markers, paper, labels, tape, clocks, chargers, cash, register, shelf, cleaning supplies, fan, trash cans) because they were lacking essential supplies. I left my employment and have yet to receive payment. Additionally, they did not fully pay the owner of Toms Bbq for the equipment deal when they moved into the building should’ve been a red flag. This is bad for the community and involves very poor food handling practices. I’m requesting payment you have ignored my messages and letters, so I am going public Charlie. You owe me for working for you do the right thing…. God bless. Look forward to hearing from you.
Moving forward::::
You legally are required to pay me for all the I work did for you. Your wild accusations will not change that, but I welcome you to prove them all because they...
Read moreI stopped by during the soft open about a week ago and loved it! Ordered the hot links plate with potato salad and Mac n cheese sides. Everything was outstanding. Loved the citrus ginger BBQ sauce and the free sample of peach cobbler. Will be back for sure.
Edit: Went back this week. Got the three meat with collard greens and potato salad. I honestly can't remember when I last had brisket that was this tender and well seasoned. Doesn't even need the BBQ sauce. Same goes for the ribs and pulled pork. The collard greens are excellent and a must try. The to-go tray was an aluminum 12in by 6 or 8in. About two or three inches in depth and was completely filled and well worth the price. I ate about half of the brisket before taking a pic btw. Filled the rest of that empty space before took the pic. I'll be a regular for sure.
Edit: I go here often now but don't want to keep giving updates. Red beans and rice are the best I've ever had. Best BBQ spot in the valley, and that's coming...
