Kura in North Scottsdale is a clean, bright, fast-moving little sushi airport. Plates loop by, the tablet fires off anything you actually want, and every few minutes something you ordered rockets in on the express lane. Zero pretense. It’s fun even if you’re not a sushi nerd.
The hits for me were simple and fresh… salmon, seared albacore, cucumber rolls, eel nigiri. Comfort bites like crispy shrimp, karaage, and takoyaki land right when you need a reset. Green tea helps you keep your taste buds honest as the conveyor keeps tempting you.
If something looks tired after a few laps, skip it and order fresh on the screen. That one habit makes the whole experience better… discovery from the belt, commitment from the tablet.
Service is friendly and quick. Plates disappear before the stack turns into a Jenga tower, and orders show up faster than small talk. It’s kid-friendly and first-timer friendly without killing the vibe for adults.
Prices feel fair until you realize how easy it is to keep “just one more plate”ing your way to a skyscraper. Join the waitlist before you drive, sit where you can see both the belt and the express lane, and keep a mental list of your personal greatest hits so you can reorder them fresh.
Bottom line… a playful, low-friction way to get a sushi fix in North Scottsdale. Not a white tablecloth night, and that’s the point. Solid 5 experience given the price...
Read moreI have been to this location twice. Once on opening day and then again a couple weeks later. Hopefully this location is just getting into the swing of things because right now the Camelback location is better.
Last night the male host was clearly sick (coughing a lot), but at least wearing a mask. The Camelback location asks if you want any unagi sauce or hot sauce before they seat you. When I asked at this location the male host said they don't have that sauce. But then I asked a server and she said they have eel sauce (which is unagi sauce) and brought it over (she was a very nice server).
At dinner time when the restaurant is super busy it gets loud inside and even though there are no stairs, it would not be accessible to wheelchair users since many of the booths have chairs at the end blocking half the walking path.
Pros: -Fresh and good food -Soy paper cones are amazing -Large variety of items -Easy and free parking outside -Clean booths
Cons: -The ipad waiting system is so slow and pointless when there is less than a 5 min wait -The ipad ordering system is placed so high in the booths that you almost have to stand to comfortably reach it -The host who seat you are not very efficient -It ends up a very expensive meal to actually get full -A lot of the containers go around empty and do not get refilled -Any items ordered off the ipad take a long time during...
Read moreI have been to the other two Kura locations (in Phoenix and Chandler) and have always had exceptional food and service each time I’ve been there. We saw the new location in Scottsdale was open and decided we wanted to check it out. Of course the food was exceptional however it did not make up for the atmosphere some of the employee were creating for us. One woman in particular kept hovering and looking at us without saying anything. Then later she kept coming up to our table asking if we’re checking out, having problems checking out, need help checking out. We said no we were just drinking our refreshments. Someone else came by to ask if we were coming across any issues and we repeated the same answer. It appeared as if they were hovering to make sure we paid but noticed both employees were just doing this to our table. We looked around and that’s when we noticed we were the only Hispanic people in the establishment. We hate to think this was because of our race however the impression we were getting and the way we felt with the interaction makes it hard for us not to feel this way. It wasn’t until my boyfriend told one of the employees we have been to the other locations countless times that her demeanor changed. I’m very disappointed and will not be going to this location again as I felt we were being...
