Very disappointed. About 11am Monday July 5, 2021, we looked online for a good local breakfast/lunch spot to have a proper end to our brief vacation in Scottsdale before getting on the road. We read the reviews and were looking forward to friendly service and good food in a pleasant environment. Sadly we experienced none of the above.
We had signed up on the online wait list, then we walked over to the restaurant, arriving two minutes before the time we had been advised to arrive. Jenny, the hostess (and who said she was the manager), was our first point of human contact in the restaurant. We checked in with Jenny, told her our name, and she said she was just waiting on two parties ahead of us but would get us a table right away. So we sat down in the two chairs next to the door (and directly in front of her about 6-7 feet away) to wait. And wait... And wait. FIVE other parties came in and they were seated. We kept looking up and making eye contact, but no recognition from Jenny. Finally a party of three came in and said to her that they were early, but thought they would come in anyway. And her reaction was, "No problem. I was just about to text you. I'll get you a table right now."
Jenny seated them, came back to the hostess stand, and I stood up to ask her where exactly in the list we were since she had obviously seated people who had signed up after us. She said, "Oh, you're next. And pointed to our name on the list." We had been "next" for nearly 15 minutes already. I could not believe her response. I commented that we were sitting right there, but her response was, "well, I sent you a text and you didn't respond. That's how it works."
No apologies. When someone is genuinely sorry that they have overlooked you, you can tell. And she definitely wasn't. It was like she was teaching us some kind of lesson for sitting and waiting patiently. She actually acted like it was our fault that she couldn't be bothered to say to us verbally that our table was ready. Her explanation of "that's how it works" was enough to make me realize that positive human interaction and making people feel welcome and not just a piece of furniture to be ignored was not high on their list of priorities in customer service.
While sitting and waiting, I had the opportunity to look around and observe the restaurant. The bright cheery colors don't negate the need for proper cleanliness. I watched three separate highchairs get put back in the stack for use not wiped down and still with chunks of food stuck to them. Distancing was not observed, I saw no staff wearing masks in the establishment, and the wipe downs of the tables and chairs were cursory at best. The menus didn't get wiped off at all. Disinfecting all of these high touch surfaces was not happening. By the time we finally asked Jenny why we had been ignored, I had already decided the place was nowhere I wanted to eat, but I did want to know why they were so completely rude. I got no answer beyond a blank stare, a sarcastic smirk, and a "that's how it works. You can be sat [sic] now if you want."
I'm perplexed about why we were treated differently from other patrons. The only thing I observed that was different about us from the other patrons who came in was that we put on our masks before entering (because delta variant covid-19 is real and we are trying to be diligent). There is no way to know if that was the reason, of course, but there is no question that we got treated differently from every other person who came in, including ones who did the exact same thing we did which was to show up 2 minutes early and check in at the hostess station. It was completely unwelcoming and de-humanizing.
Jenny was rude and totally unfeeling. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but I've lost all confidence in the establishment now. When we return to the area, we will not be...
Read moreStepping into OEB Breakfast was a breath of fresh air, quite literally. The establishment exuded cleanliness from every corner, with spotless floors and a sparkling environment that made me feel instantly at ease. The bartender diligently polishing glasses showcased a commitment to hygiene that further elevated the dining experience.
While the decor was not overly extravagant, it was bright, pleasant, and perfectly suited to the casual breakfast setting. The colors were inviting, and the ambiance was warm and cheerful, offering a comfortable space for diners to enjoy their meals without feeling overwhelmed.
The menu selection at OEB Breakfast was a true standout, offering a diverse array of options that catered to different tastes and preferences. The freshness of the ingredients used in each dish was unmistakable, with a clear dedication to sourcing top-quality produce that elevated the overall dining experience.
When it came to food quality, OEB Breakfast truly excelled. From the Gold Digga with its perfectly poached eggs with runny yolks, fried herb potatoes, and indulgent brown butter Hollandaise was perfectly executed. The flavors were expertly balanced, the textures were on point, and the presentation was excellent. The kids had poached eggs on english muffins with more of that Hollandaise sauce. They were equally thrilled with their selections and scarfed it down in seconds.
Service at OEB Breakfast was exceptional, with a team of attentive servers who went above and beyond to ensure that every customer felt valued and well taken care of. From accommodating our extraordinarily late arrival by keeping the kitchen open to providing detailed descriptions of menu items and fulfilling every request promptly, the staff at OEB Breakfast trounced on the competition.
In terms of value, while the prices at OEB Breakfast leaned towards the higher end, the quality of the ingredients and the overall dining experience justified the cost. The freshness and complexity of the dishes, along with the impeccable service, made every penny spent well worth it.
Overall, my dining experience at OEB Breakfast was nothing short of exceptional. The quality of the food, the attentiveness of the service, and the inviting ambiance all contributed to making it a memorable meal. If you're looking for a breakfast spot that excels in every aspect, from cleanliness to menu selection to service, look no further than OEB...
Read moreThe lobster shrimp crêpe was amazing. My drink was amazing. I really needed to come here and relax today and have a good experience. Unfortunately, the waiter was extremely rude. Did not speak to us was not one bit friendly or courteous set the silverware down at the edge of the table out of our reach did not even bring us a drink menu. I had to ask him to take our breakfast order, despite me giving him an 18% tip, which she did not deserve he did not even thank us. Did not speak handed the receipt rudely when I learned he was the assistant manager. I told the girl never mind he still came back to the table and said can I help you with something I said yes can you tell me why you hate your job or at least tell me why you hated waiting on us he stated that wasn’t the case and he didn’t understand why I had that experience I said I can explain it to you and I reviewed with him what I stated in this post, he said I was entitled to my opinion he didn’t seem to care and stated he stated he hoped we enjoyed our experience somewhere else , this is not the type of service you expect in a nice Scottsdale breakfast restaurant despite my experience with this waiter, I will be back because the crêpe was that good, but I will not accept service from him again, lastly, when I stated I would be putting this experience on Google he stated that was fine. He had plenty of good reviews and I stated you will not be getting a good one from us today, again he did not...
