It's been many years since I had an experience this terrible at a restaurant. The hostess wasn't just rude and dismissive; I can handle that. She actively ignored us, including seating people who came in after us before me and my party of 3(really 2 adults and a small child.) We had to complain to even get seated, at an awful high table with uncomfortable chairs. The hostess was absolutely thrilled to do it do. The slumped shoulders and annoyed expression really sold it.
The menu is the definition of lame, with all these dumb and extremely obvious puns. Riga Tony. Do you get it?! But whatever, the prices were reasonable enough. But to be honest the food didn't smell great. You also have to walk past the kitchen to get to the bathrooms. Like straight up past the order table. The bathroom was clean, so points for that. But the food on the plates did not look great and I was immediately concerned.
I ordered a Moscow Mule, and it was the single worst cocktail I'd ever had. It was basically just Ginger Beer. My wife agreed and I sent it back. Didn't bother getting another, especially when they wanted 10 bucks. I wasn't charged, but we'll come to that.
The server was nice but as usual, probably overworked and covering way too many tables. Since we barely saw her, except for her to tell us she was still waiting for a kids pizza(she said pepperoni, we ordered cheese). She also seemed to be working the bar, and she might have made my drink. My wife and I just decided to get the kids meal and leave.
That took another 20 mintues. We got the check, and we were being charged for my wifes lemonade she had maybe a sip out of. At that point I decided to ask for the manager. The manager was zero help. He didn't care one bit, but oddly tried to talk us into staying. He was gonna be our server. The server wasn't the problem! What made him think we wanted to stay? His sterling customer service? The smell of marinara in a jar? We didn't even get an apology for being seated after people who came in 20 minutes after us! We paid the tab and left(we never asked for it to be comped either. We just wanted some service). The hostess was playing on her phone as we walked out the door.
When we got in the car, my wife and I tasted a tiny bit of my daughters pizza. It wasn't great. My daughter wasn't particularly impressed either, she didn't finish it and ate strawberries instead.
We will not be returning. To this or any Oregano's. And we will share this experience. With friends and family....

From the moment we stepped into Oregano’s on Scottsdale Ave in Tempe, we knew we were in for something special. The authentic Italian ambiance immediately pulled us in—the warm lighting, the aroma of fresh-baked dough, and the lively yet inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home.
We were promptly seated and greeted by Raeger, our server and bartender, who was nothing short of phenomenal. Being our first time here, we asked him to guide us through the menu, and his recommendations were spot on. His enthusiasm and knowledge made it clear—this guy knows his food!
We started with the fried zucchini and dipping sauce, which was absolutely impeccable—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and paired with a dipping sauce that took it to another level. It set the tone for the incredible meal ahead.
For my main course, I went with my go-to favorite: the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich with chips—and it did NOT disappoint. The chicken was juicy and tender, coated in a perfectly crisp breading, smothered in rich marinara, and nestled in a warm, toasty bun. Every bite was an explosion of flavor.
Holly decided on the Pan BBQ Chicken Pizza, and after her first bite, she declared it the best she’s ever had. Naturally, I had to try a slice, and she wasn’t wrong. The crust was thick yet light, with that perfect crunch, and the balance of smoky BBQ sauce, savory chicken, and melted cheese was sheer perfection.
We wrapped up the meal with a classic cannoli, and let me tell you—this was the way to end the night. The shell was perfectly crisp, the filling rich and creamy, and it had just the right touch of sweetness.
To wash it all down, we had the strawberry lemonade, which was bright, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal.
Adding to the top-tier experience, we had a great conversation with Kim, the manager, who made us feel like VIP guests. Her passion for customer service and ensuring every guest has a stellar experience truly stood out.
From start to finish, Oregano’s delivered a flawless dining experience. Between the fantastic service, phenomenal food, and inviting atmosphere, this place is a must-visit for anyone looking for top-notch Italian cuisine in Tempe.
