We came to Uncle Sal's today to celebrate my twin sister's birthday. When we arrived we were told that lunch was only being served at the bar. We said we were waiting for two more in our party & sat down at a table. An incredibly rude, narly waitress tells us we can't sit at this table because there are only three of us & we needed to move to the tables at the other side of the room. We looked around and the place was nearly empty. My niece said why? The waitress yells "you are going to have to move or GET THE HELL OUT". So we moved to the table she indicated. We'hear her loudly say to a biker looking chick sitting at the end of the bar "as mad as I am & I can't believe I have to serve them! " This waitress then refused to take our order & said to us "GET OUT". We asked are you throwing us out? She said "YES!". We asked to speak to the manager - Sally & this nasty waitress says she will not be here till 6pm. As we were leaving a group of middle aged white men who were sitting at the bar yell at us "you had it coming!".
Unbelievably, we got kicked out of Uncle Sal's on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018 at about 3:30pm. This waitress ruined my sister's birthday. We are native born Scottsdale residents having gone to Uncle Sal's throughout the years. Now this is the type of service we receive? This waitress was in her 50's with brown hair, average build. The fact that we are Latino may or may not have been an issue for this waitress.
Later at 7:45pm my sister called & asked to speak to the owner SALLY MOLINARI, we were told we can't speak with her because she is busy.
Based on this experience we will never return and I would advise anyone reading this to pass on Uncle Sal's. It doesnt matter what type of day you are having, you DO NOT treat paying...
Read moreI'm torn. I've been coming here for 20 years. I was so excited to come on Mother's Day! (Especially since they are no longer open for lunch but were for this one day.)
But here it goes.
FOOD: -The tomato soup was good. Every soup I've ever had here is good. -The oysters Rockefeller was amazing. -The escargot was super hot, fresh, and yummy. -The salad is simple but great ranch and great Italian. -The garlic bread is always a joy. -The daily special lamb shank looked amazing coming out of the kitchen. -All entree's (chicken piccata, chicken Milanese, clams and linguine, tortellini) were enjoyed whether eaten in house, as leftovers, or taken to go. -The iced tea tasted like liquid dirt.
ATMOSPHERE: It was Mother's Day, we were the first people there upon opening with reservations and we got more nasty looks than I would have ever imagined. I specifically asked for a table out of the way, as I have small children. We were put right in front of the kitchen door. My kids were very well behaved and it's lunch and Mother's Day! Not a black tie event. Felt very unwelcome by staff and other diners.
SERVICE: -We had to continuously ask for drink refills, which were not timely at all. -The server (Jill?) was fine at first until we ordered just water to drink, for the most part, after that she seemed disinterested in us (still had a $300 bill). -She didn't let me finish a single request before walking away with an "ok" said over her shoulder, or no response at all, leaving us to wonder if she even heard me. -She did not deserve the tip she was left. -She did get the order 95% correct so she obviously was listening but not personable at all.
OVERALL: We will be back because the food is great but hopefully don't get the...

We went here with a large group that goes to lunch together every month. We decided to try Uncle Sal's as we had heard good things about the food. And that part was correct. For the most part, the food was really good. I had the veal saltimbocca. Although I had it all over Italy, I had never seen this particular dish topped with mushrooms. However, it was delicious - served over perfectly cooked pasta. Others in our group were mixed - the only standout (on the bad side) was the Eggplant Parmesan. Everyone else seems at worst, satisfied, and, at best, pleased with the food.
The service, on the other hand, was not as good. We are a group of individuals and couples - we always get separate checks. I've been in the restaurant industry for nearly twenty years - it's not that hard!! However, our server REFUSED to give us split checks. She said to take the check and divide by 20 - it would all average out. Really? Tell that to the people that didn't order a drink, appetizer or expensive lunch. One person in our group just had the bruschetta. My veal was far more expensive than his. Instead of making their customers' job easier, they put the burden of figuring out how much everybody owed onto us. In all the years we've been doing this lunch, we've never had someone refuse separate checks. Very poor customer service.
In conclusion - if you are going as a small group and one person is picking up the check - you could do a lot worse. The food is quite good. However, if you have a large group, I suggest finding another...
