You guys. It should literally be a crime on how delicious the burgers are. Best burger I've had, and im pretty well traveled and have a versatile pallet from ordering a bunch of different types of food from all over. We're from the seattle area. Me and my 17 yr old kid stumbled across this place on Google. We first went to voodoo brewer, but we weren't feeling the vibe, zero interaction and expensive food. After 15 mins of me researching a different place, I saw "Chef vons and mom" with 5 whole Stars and only a few reviews, but we hastily left voodoo and traversed the whole 2 minute drive to get to chef vons and mom. We got there and found parking pretty quickly. Not as daunting as I thought it would be. When we got there we thought they were closed because the restaurant was completely empty (how??) We were graciously greeted by a lovely young girl and then chef von and mom came out after, and introduced themselves and mom asked where were from and chatted a little with us. We ordered the peanut butter bacon burger with fries, because why not try? And omg. Even though it was slathered with delicious creamy peanut butter, you could taste EVERY single component on there. The peanut butter wasnt masking ANYTHING. The home-made patty alone and whatever secret sauce they had on there, was mind blowing. It shone through the peanut butter, THATS how good it was. There was a little bit of a wait, which we didn't care, it looked like a new family business and we're no Karen's, and then we got our food and damn... The wait was worth it. We're only in scranton for 2 days but we are Definitely coming back and ordering different things to try so we can give them the shout out they deserve bc; "Whats good on the menu?" Them: everything. And I absolutely believe it. We were even laughing and smiling over how delicious the burger was while we were enjoying every bite. We Threw in the reason why it was a longer wait than "normal" was bc he was making sweet sweet love to it, and thats why we heard pounding in the kitchen. And my daughter said "more than sweet love, he made the booty cheeks clap, bc this burger slaps" 😅 🤦♀️ Cant wait to come back for more. Service was amazing as well. I hope they get the numbers they deserve. Oh, apparently theyre also open until 3am!? Not sure if that's a normal thing around here, with it not being a 24 hr diner, but I can only imagine how many drunk patrons would have a oral-gasm eating here after a few drinks. Don't...
Read moreLet’s get this out of the way: noting the lengthy food wait times, styrofoam packaging, canned beverage choices, and a kitchen just as large—if not larger—than the dining room itself, this establishment is primarily a pickup/delivery joint. While it is technically an option, it’s made very clear in-person and on the website that the dine-in experience is not a priority here, which is perfectly OK with me. I’m a young buck; like most of my fellow zoomers, I prefer to order online or (begrudgingly) call places ahead of time and take my order to-go.
That being said, to put it simply: the food here is nothing short of fantastic. Easily one of the best burgers I ever had when I first tried this place out. While YES, the food is pricey—and I’m sure many oldheads balk at the pricing for a restaurant that doesn’t really offer a “proper” dine-in experience—it is absolutely worth every penny if you enjoy good food. Even when Chef Von himself isn’t there, the food quality, serving size, and presentation has been damn near consistent throughout my numerous visits which definitely speaks to the competence of the staff here. Front and back of house; I’ve always had a pleasant experience calling in and picking up my food too.
One thing I absolutely didn’t expect to love here, the chicken caesar wrap. One day when my fiancée and I ordered food from here together, I ordered my usual burger and she got the chicken caesar wrap and offered me a bite. I don’t know why, especially because I’m not a fan of salads in general, but it’s among my favorite foods now. This place has both introduced me to, and simultaneously ruined, chicken caesar wraps for me, because no other restaurant around here makes them nearly as good. I now find myself making chicken caesar wraps at home trying to replicate Chef Von’s recipe, frustrated thus far by failure, but getting closer and closer every day to a proper dupe.
Y’all keep doing what you’re doing. For having a menu completely curated by a chef that was literally on one of Gordon Ramsay’s shows, this is hands-down one of the most criminally underrated food spots in downtown Scranton. Even when I do inevitably crack that recipe, rest assured this place will continue to see my patronage for the...
Read moreFinally had the chance to come to this highly acclaimed and talked about spot in downtown Scranton and see if it lived up to the hype. As you can see from my rate it absolutely does. Let’s dive into our experience. We waited all day for the Facebook posted saying they were opening for the day, since they do not have regular hours. We arrived about an hour after they opened, walked into a very clean and casual atmosphere, we were welcomed by two very friendly servers behind the counter. We told them this was our first time here and they were very happy to explain how everything works. They have paper copies of the menu and a QR code you can scan for the digital menu. We were welcomed to sit anywhere we liked. After placing our order we returned to our seats for what turned out to be a short wait for our food. Service was not only friendly but fast. There were four of us and we ordered: Two orders of cheesesteak pirogies - These were good, very good but not what we expected, each order had four pirogies, we were expected the filling to be cheesesteaks however they were normal potato pirogies covered in cheesesteak meat cheese and a sauce. Next were our meals We ordered of course the signature peanut butter and candied bacon smash burger and holy shit was this delicious. The burger was fresh, well seasoned, smashed perfectly and crispy on the edges, the bacon was out of this world delicious, the peanut butter sauce was not overly sweet as I feared it may be and was amazing on the burger. The fires were crispy, salty and perfect. This is a must try burger. The other members of our party all ordered rodeo burgers which, I did not try, but was all very well received and enjoyed by everyone. Only issue we had was its downtown so you have to hunt for parking but there is a garage nearby worse case. Overall terrific experience that lives up to the hype. I can see this becoming a regular spot for us, and should be a must go to...
