The Salty Dog..where sauce is just a word We came to The Salty Dog on a Thursday night during a trip to Kiawah. I wanted to go to Bowman's Island but it was deemed to be too far by my children. The wait was about 45 minutes, so we went into the bar to grab drinks (Bahama Mamas - pleasantly strong). We were not acknowledged by either bartender for about 10 minutes. When one of them finally decided to make eye contact, she just said, "What can I get you?" Well HELLO to you too Sis. If you don't enjoy serving people, how about not working as a server? We got seated and our abrupt waitress tried to take our whole order at once. We ordered some wings with the "spicy island sauce". When the wings came out they were fried and plain. So we asked the waitress where is the spicy island sauce? She stared at us for a moment and then said "it's on there. If it wasn't they'd be white." I said 'They just look like they're fried and plain. Where's the sauce? Are you saying its on there?" She said "Sauce is just a word It doesn't mean anything." Huh!? We ordered the Fisherman's pasta which is definitely big enough to share, salmon (dry and missing the promised rice), peel and eat shrimp (meh). The whole meal was interspersed with awkward interactions with our server AJ. We told the manager about the "sauce is just a word, it doesn't mean anything" incident. He said, "What the hell does that even mean?" Well, if you don't know, we sure don't. Overall, the meal was lackluster and I wish we'd have invested the time to drive elsewhere!

This location is a bit sneaky to find. It's not well marked at the marina, but Google maps takes you right there. We went on a Thursday and they were full, but no waiting. Plenty of room inside and outside for seating. Once we're were seated, we got our drinks and ordered our food. Food came out fairly quickly and the waitress disappeared for the rest of the meal. Someone later checked on us and by then we were past needing refills. Instead of the refills the waitress came out and wasn't very friendly. She brought the check but no refills. We weren't even done eating and we're thinking of desert. That sealed it and we didn't get desert. Service wasn't horrible, but definitely was happy that you were there and they were there to help you. Not friendly at all. Food had good presentation. We decided to get something other than burgers. Which are usually there staple at other locations. Meal size was more than plentiful. Taste was average. It wasn't bad food but wasn't worth the cost. Recommend sticking to burgers. Overall, probably recommend this chain at another location. There are other food choices in the area.

Relaxing restaurant with large portions and good water view. She crab soup was flavorful and tasted just like New England clam chowder. The house salad is very large with a good assortment of fresh vegetables and regular tomatoes. Cut up. Hush puppies are not what you would expect from a typical Southern style. They were soft and kind of Doughy and slightly sweet and about 2 inches in diameter. For the entrée, the jambalaya pasta was a huge portion, easily enough to feed two. It was reminiscent of a fancy mac & cheese with Mexican chicken, shrimp and sausage, and also had a medium spicy kick to it. In my opinion, it was too much pasta and not enough of the other ingredients. It would be a stretch to call it jambalaya but it was flavorful though, although mostly pasta. The fish was grilled, just as we asked, and it was grilled correctly and had a good flavor as did the accompanying vegetables which were tasty as well. French fries were actually good as well. Service was excellent, friendly and prompt. If you’re hungry, this is the place to go just don’t order to much or you’ll be bringing a lot back.

Meh

We tried to order on a weeknight and was told no take-out after 6pm. I was a bit perplexed by that as it seemed they were turning away money...but whatever. As a former restaurant owner I understand there may be something within their concept that benefits them to do so. I told the waitress that we would be coming in to eat. She replied with a confused.. "um..what?" I replied that we would bhe coming in to eat shortly. I was met with a long pause...and then she replied "I guess."

My wife and I decided to go get takeout from Cantina76 instead. Weird interaction.

We ended up grabbing takeout the next day. We got a oyster po'boy, fresh catch sandwich (so we thought), and mahi tacos. I paid extra for the oysters which was fine. They were delicious.

When we ordered we were told we would get a text when the order was ready. After waiting for 30 minutes wiht no text we decided to go inside

We entered the restaurant around 4pm on a Wednesday. We are "greeted" by two women up front who were more enthralled with their conversation than greeting us. I mentioned we were there for takeout and were halfheartedly told to go to the bar. Once downstairs we entered the bar where there were about 5 servers/kitchen staff standing around. I asked if this was the spot for takeout (as they all scattered) and was told yes but the food was not ready. Mind you there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. I said alrighty and we waited at the bar. The food arrived a couple minutes later. We made our exit.

All in all the customer service was seriously lacking for a place with that much potential/prestige. Also they seemed quite overstaffed for the time. But I'm not a local so who knows if I happened to see it at a very dead time. I saw at least 10 staff members though which seems overkill for 4pm/weekday.

We did not get the fresh catch sandwich but instead they gave us the entree with rice and vegetables. Oh well as long we my tuna is cooked MR like I requested, right? Wrong. The grill marks were beautiful on it...but in order to get those marks I was worried they absolutely killed my fish. I was correct. It took every bit of moisture in my mouith away with each bite. I couldnt finish it and gave it to my dog. Likely the best meal he has had in weeks. I think it was atrocious that they treated a nice piece of fish that way especially since I was asked what temperature I wated it. Common guys...you're a seafood place with decades in business. Be better. $30

My po'boy was meh. Oysters were solid. Their famous sauce was hardly there.. The machine sliced/pre-bagged (likely) lettuce weas wilted and browning. The tomatoes looked pre-cut like taco bell. You all run out of tomatoes or is it always that pathetic looking?. You guys seriously can't get more fresh product with how much you charge? The bun was very large and pretty standard...like a frozsen product from sysco/USFoods. I may be spoiled because my wife is a pastry chef...but for $20 I think you could improve every aspect of that sandwhich except the protein. Bun included. Fries were warm and not hot .$20 and would not order again

The fried maho fish tacos were solid. They had a chipoitle aioli on them that actually had some heat which I was pleasantly surprised about. Corn tortillas were avilable upon request but I opted for the flour. Fried again were warm and not hot. $22

I almost opted for a two but I'm going to try and give them another shot. We'll see how that turns out. I have had family that had excellent food there. Also times it was mediocre. I think it depends whether you get their A,...

Worst customer experience I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve worked at multiple restaurants myself. SUPERRRRRR rude rude rude management AND FOOD DIRECTOR. (Who unnecessarily stuck his face right in front of my mother in laws face when no voices were raised and she was having a cilivized conversation with him. I had to step in to start talking so he backed off. So unprofessional.)

We tried to have a place for family coming all the way into town for a wedding to eat at. We called WEEKS before hand AND showed up a day before to make sure it wasn’t too busy to show up with a big group of people.

We had our party coming in around 3:30 (so we could be done by 5:00 dinner parties when it gets busy). Our servers were told that we needed to all be seating to take orders. Which we continued to do, when more people slowly showed up they would greet the family and then sit down. They must have only seen people greeting other family members cause apparently we were being super rude and management had to come out.

Again told to have people sitting for tables which we did. The food director HOURS later came rushing out to the patio claiming my mother in law cursed at the server. This was not true as she said a curse word not pertaining to the server whatsoever. He accused her immediately without listening to anything she had to say MEANWHILE SHOVING HIS FACE right next to hers. I could you not, he could have kissed her.

He was not listening to anything she had to say and said she had to leave. She was trying to tell him her side of the story & he was being super unprofessional, still close to her face, was not listening and kept interrupting her. We also explained that all of us have worked in a restaurant before, we were being super considerate and did everything they asked of us.

He was obviously taking it too far and has not dealt with confrontation before as he was shaking his lips after telling her to leave again. We were paying customers just like everyone else. If anything we were giving them a ton of business before dinner hours. If short staff or anything was an issue and they told us, we would have understood and adjusted.

We also travel to Seabrook almost every year and we will definitely never be returning...

Ruined our last night of vacation. We sat inside and waited thirty minutes before we even got service and they were empty. I confirmed with the waiter the kids shrimp were popcorn shrimp which he said yes so I ordered two kids popcorn shrimps. When the food came out they brought the wrong thing so my kids just ate the fries while we waited another 20 minutes for the waiter and we were all without drinks as well still. My husband went to find the manager and asked for the kids meals to be corrected. When the shrimp Came out they were not popcorn shrimp but giant shrimp which my kids don’t like which again is why I asked initially if they were popcorn shrimp because had they not been I would’ve gotten their back up of chicken nuggets and fries. My husband found the manager and asked for our kids food to be corrected . She came out with a major attitude and said the kids meals would be free but that “the kids must’ve liked it if they ate half of it “ my husband responded explaining they ate the fries and both of our kids ate my husbands pasta because the wait was so long then he didn’t have dinner. The manager then made a comment about how she understands people want things for free and my husband said one curse word because she was so rude and she (the manager) caused a SCENE . Kicked our family out of the restaurant and said we were banned from “her establishment “. To summarize we waited 30 minutes to be acknowledged , our kids orders were wrong TWICE, we never got refills, we complained and got “banned” and the manager made a rude comment about my kids eating half their food (fries only) and that we just wanted a free meal. I would NEVER go here again and would advise other families do the same . My five year old has looked forward to eating at the “puppy restaurant “ all week and is now in tears over how the manager spoke to us .

I also forgot to mention the manager told my kids who are 5 and 11, “ I’m sorry your dad ruined your night “ . The absolute nerve of her is wild. She absolutely doesn’t need a...
