Ate at Kong Thai for the first time yesterday. It doesn't look fancy from the outside but the food inside makes up for cosmetics. The owner was so friendly and helpful with menu questions. To open, he suggested the curry puffs as an appetizer and rightly so. They were light and fluffy with an interesting vegetable filling and delicate curry flavor. Highly recommended. He also brought out fried spring rolls for each of us... on the house! Light and delicious with a sauce reminiscent of apple sauce. We also ordered the fresh spring rolls. Good balance of noodles and vegetables. Sliced to share.
My daughter had the Thai tea with her meal. Creamy and delicious. She ordered the Laad Nar with pork as her choice of protein; a noodle dish with vegetables and a flavorful gravy- like sauce.
The salmon teriyaki included a huge amount of salmon covered with a surprising sweet sugar type crust and a sweet, yummy vegetable filled teriyaki sauce. Served with broccoli and a huge amount of rice on the side.
Their drunken noodles with chicken was one of the best drunken noodle dishes I've had. The sauce had a delicious, tangy flavor. The amount of meat in their dishes was more generous than you'll find at most other Thai restaurants.
We wish we had room for the sticky rice with mango for dessert but we were filled up! Instead, we took a mandarin orange home from the bowl by the register. Had to take much of our food home with us as well because of the large portion size. Come with an appetite!
Instead of going to the Outback right down the street, try this healthy and delicious restaurant instead. You won't be...
Read moreOn the frou-frou scale, zip, zero, nada. On the food scale 10. I gave "Atmosphere" 5 stars because this "quaint" "unique" environment is an atmosphere of its own. Actually, the whole experience is unique, for me, except for a little village far from Bangkok, where the vegetables are still crisp (but not raw), and the chicken breast cut thick, allowing it to be tender, succulent and delicious without the over-cooked dry leather-like strips I have found in most US Thai restaurants I have frequented. Mushrooms in your soup? You'll get whole mushrooms, not cute little slices or chopped in squares. Tofu? Again, not itsy bits. Big chunks of tofu. Can you imagine the juicy, spicy, sweet, sour all-in experience of just a bowl of soup here?
If you value "country-style goodness," with the country being Thailand, then I highly recommend Kong Thai.
Note: I know this sounds like an advertisement, but look at my other reviews. I just tell it like it is/was. When I come back, and if it's awful, I'll...
Read moreThis was a wonderful little hole in the wall restaurant. The reviews were fantastic, but when we pulled up around lunchtime, the parking lot was empty, so we were skeptical. However, once we ordered and waited for our food, it was obvious that they do mostly To Go orders. We ordered the Drunken Noodles with pork and a Tom Kha coconut soup with chicken. The owner first brought out 2 bottles of water. Then, he brought out 2 crispy spring rolls with sauce for each of us. We didn't order either, so we were surprised it was included in the price. The coconut soup was piping hot, with a creamy coconut broth, and very flavorful. The Drunken Noodles was freshly prepared, had some fresh vegetables, generous portion of chicken (we ordered pork), and was absolutely delicious, so no need to quibble about it not being pork. The bathroom was clean and had paper towels and soap. While it's not a fancy place, the wonderful food more than made up for the lack of ambiance. We highly...
