Service has taken a nosedive this past year. Last time we arrived at 7:30pm and were seated. They asked us our orders 10 min later. By 8:00pm they finally brought us our drinks and appetizers but they also brought the bill. We were surprised since they didn't brought our food yet. 15 min later they finally brought our food, and rigth after the elder Asian waitress keep walking by every 5 min just staring at us. At a point she started picking up our plates but we were not done yet! We HATE to be rushed in this rude manner. She even touched the food with her finger because she assumed we were done. We said were were not ready. By 8:30pm another lady came and asked us for the bill to what we said we were not done yet. We asked for desert (tempura ice cream) but the thing was already frozen up and no freshly made as it has always been. The food quality has been decaying so fast as well. Before, the rolls had substantial ingredients but now mostly consists of rice. The chicken teriyaki was COLD. By 8:45pm they had us just tired and very uncomfortable of the many times they keep pressuring us. We decided not to tip due to horrible service and yet the lady demanded tip. We stayed firm and said no. Hopefully, this sends a message that service needs to improve. This is sad since we have...
Read moreI was looking for an alternative place for ramen other than the Ramen shop in Downtown Monterey. Harumi has 3 ramen choices: Shoyu, Miso, and Tonkotsu.
I tried out their Tonkotsu ramen with an order of a sushi roll. The ramen came out in a large bowl with a whole egg (not half of one), 3 chashu pork slices, and all the accoutrement. The broth was rich and thick, but a bit salty for my taste. I was slightly disappointed that I wasn't able to enjoy all the broth of the ramen.
Not to be dissuaded from the place I went back and tried their Miso ramen. I changed it up a little since I was craving some spice for the night. The waitress said they could spice up the dish on a scale of 1 to 10. I asked for an 8 and was warned that it would be spicy. Sure enough, they delivered the spice as promised. The spice they used seemed to have a more vinaigrette tasting and the sensation hits the back of your tongue more (or at least my tongue more). I had ordered a sushi roll with the bowl of ramen as well, which helped me pace the heat of the dish.
I'm not a big fan of Shoyu ramen so I didn't try that one. However, I am sold on the ramen they offer at this restaurant. Will definitely go back to try playing with the spice level and maybe try the...
Read moreAs Seaside residents, my husband and I have ordered from Harumi a few times either at the restaurant or as a take-out. The quality and taste of your meals has always been good, after all, we are repeat customers. Tonight (13 July), however it was extremely disappointing and frankly, a waste of money Unlike last week's take out, the cucumber salad was dry, bitter, and honestly, inedible. We each took a bite and threw away the rest. The two baked rolls (Carmel Valley and Zen Fusion) tasted awful. My wife had to spit out the Zen Fusion, and the Carmel Valley did not taste anything like what we had last weekend. Finally, the Negi Hama Maki was simply bland. On the upside, the kids did not complain about their Chicken Katsu. As a local customer, I placed a courtesy call to provide a genuine feedback on the quality of our meal, but the lady who picked up the phone put me on hold, and the gentleman who I spoke with did not care a bit. My hope is that the someone at Harumi does care about the quality of their food takes notice...
