Gateway Lodge — Hotel in Seaside

Our stay at this motel was a experience from the get go. We had no where to go when we pulled in the motel we weren't to sure what to expect, however we decided to try any way, well because we were local we got what they call the locals room. Yuk, but we managed. The next day I bought some cleaning supplies an scrubbed the bathroom down. As advertised it had a continental breakfast, coffee an a fourth of Costco sliced muffins. We were short of paying one night when they raised the rent us. We worked it out an got to stay. We later got asked to move to another room, to make this short cause just talking about it gives me NB the creeps. Staying in this room after a couple of days I started to get bug bites, I couldn't sleep after I got bitten a few times, I had my very small dog an thought oh it must be the fleas but, they didn't have that many, after all I had been sleeping with him an never gotten bitten once. Well, I woke up one morning scratching an couldn't scratch any more when I got up I looked at what this is making me have these bits. And at my surprise I noticed a few of these critters in the bed an one on my husband. Well, I took this to a lab an it were bed bugs. When I approached the managers they said they have never had this problem an was asked to check out. Well, I also found out that a few other guests had a problem with this to where they had to go to the ER. That was enough for me. First she wanted to blame my dog, an I had him tested an he wasn't the problem. So finally a few rooms may be upgraded but the problem was...

So, Gateway Lodge didn't make our situation right, so here is my review. The place was recently remodeled in the sense that they painted somethings and decided to go with plywood as a headboard and table material. There was dry wall putty and paint on the floor. Toilet was the original warn out unit with a gross seat shower that wasn't much different. The front door had no secondary latch. I could hear the folks in the rooms on either side of us. I say this because it shows the level of commitment the owners have to having a good facility. This was the second room we were given. The first room was interesting, to say the least. Gf opened the room door and was presented with a filthy room that had a big dog in it. This made us wonder why we were given this room in the first place. And why isn't the hotel tracking what or who is in what rooms. Girlfriend felt uneasy, as did i. we were given the new room but couldn't handle the vibe of the situation. I talked to the guy at the counter, and I said i understand if we don't get the first night's money back, but if he could help with some type of refund for the remainder that would be fine. He agreed with the compromise he mentioned I should call the travel company, which I did, and we parted ways. Well, the travel company said Gateway denied my request. Traveler beware and good luck. Friendly Courteous staff. Originally booked thru travel website 1 Queen bed balcony view. Friday morning last room available felt lucky especially when I arrived to check in. Arrived at around 5p. Very gracious young man at the desk, so nice took my information to register and offered an 'UPGRADE' room king bed. Thinking wow and immediately thanked him. So room 1 Queen w/balcony or UPGRADE 1 king bed. My fault for thinking this meant Up from where the current accommodations. Room was on first level close to parking lot, also ice and vending machines. Yes room 1 king bed, t.v., microwave, mini fidge, hair dryer, and coffee pot equipped with coffee, cream and sugar for 2. Clean working shower shampoo soap and clean soft towels. Now I wished the heater/air conditioner 'WORKED'! Although it's early June, Seaside still boasts cool breezes off the coast and evenings sometimes very chilly or downright colder. The climate.in the day is mild sunny sometimes foggy but will burn off quickly even a foggy day is pleasant to be and about the town and neighboring cities. So the heater and no balcony with my upgrade should've thought to ask trade off for upgrade, right? Oh well, good place just couple things would've made it A1 for me.
