Ambiance and Service: Maligne offers a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The chairs are easy to sit on, and the service is excellent. My waiter was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer questions about the menu. Food: The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the food. The broccolini appetizer boasted a delicious smoky flavor, and the trout entree was a generous portion bursting with fresh herbs and flavors. While a touch on the salty side, it remained quite memorable. The ingredients were high-quality and the execution sophisticated. However, the lime custard dessert fell short. The texture was delightful, but the lack of tartness left the dish overly sweet and imbalanced. Points to Consider: A small price point adjustment would better reflect the overall experience, especially considering the lack of complimentary bread. I dined alone and the cost of my meal was $100 including tip for 3 courses. Additionally, the music selection included a song with explicit lyrics, which felt out of place in the otherwise sophisticated environment. A more curated playlist would enhance the dining experience. Finally, while the open door offered a welcome breeze, it also attracted flies. A screen door would be a simple solution to maintain airflow without sacrificing comfort. Overall: Maligne offers delicious, high-quality food with excellent service in a comfortable setting. While a few minor adjustments could elevate the experience further, it remains a solid choice for a...
Read moreOne of the best restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula! Klaus and his team brought an unforgettable experience and unreal food to the table. The big six top table seated next to a big open window was quite the experience. A lot of natural light and a nice beautiful open restaurant. It was so cool that they invited us into the kitchen to see their process. We got to see our whole chicken cooking in the corner nestled in some bricks by the fire. The chicken was one of the best chickens I’ve ever had and the whole family thought so too.! We will definitely be making this one of our regular spots. The onion rings are unbelievable and I don’t even like onion rings! My father’s biggest complaint about the restaurant was that there was not a spoon at the table to get all of the sauce off of the plate!
There was not much for my daughter to eat that she was attracted to on the menu, so Klaus offered to make her an amazing pasta that was off of the menu AND…..the Parmesan cheese was unreal! But my daughter sure came around and ended up eating a little bit of everything.
Highly recommend this place! It sounds like they will be rotating the menu every week or so. So, when somebody reads this….some of the things I might have had will not be on the menu. I think the creativity that this group of people have will continue to surprise everybody on the peninsula. Can’t wait to keep...
Read moreA friend and I had an incredible experience at Maligne last night and hope to return many more times in the future. Everything about place is exceptional. The service was impeccable with a very knowledgeable and accommodating wait staff. Our server was very attentive but was not in the least bit obtrusive. He helped us select an amazing bottle of wine that complimented our food beautifully. Every item we ordered was cooked to perfection and tastefully presented. To start we ordered roasted oysters. They were covered with seaweed and spices. They were delectable. We both ordered the one half roasted chicken for our main course. To be totally honest, it was the best roasted chicken I have ever eaten. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It is covered in a sauce that is so delicious it Is difficult to explain how good it is. It is a huge portion and the whole thing is covered with a wonderful watercress salad. We also had the grilled shrimp cooked in a knockout lime and chili sauce. For desert I had chocolate mouse. It was rich and creamy without being overly sweet. I loved it. This is the best dining experience I have had since coming to peninsula three years ago. I eat out a lot and have eaten at all the major restaurants in the area. This one is in a class all of it’s own. It is worth every bit of your...
