So I had high hopes for this place and really wanted to like it but was let down on multiple accounts. I was there during lunch time so evening experience might be different
I had recently frequented the restaurant next door, L’Oursin and thought it would be fun to try Bar Bayonne for lunch.
I came in mid-day Friday and proceeded to order at the bar and the woman behind the counter gave me the worst glare while I was ordering as if I was bothering her. I finished my order and tipped per usual custom - I asked her to cut my baguette sandwich in half and she gave me the biggest eye roll and exasperated look. I was taken aback as to how this was such a ridiculous request. I later realized there were knives at the table which she could have easily informed me - BTW she barely cut the sandwich and gave it back to me in a very curt manner - OOF what did I do?
I ended up working a little bit in the cafe while I ate my sandwich and drank sparkling water ($23 + tip) - sammy was something I would have expected from QFC or gas station (sorry but it wasn’t good)
Next time I’ll save my time, money and go to somewhere more worthy such as...
Read moreWow. For only having ONE person working in the kitchen and only ONE person behind the bar this place is a wonder. The atmosphere cannot be better. Really kind of unique in that it's not a full service restaurant but a place to go chill and have snacks (that you can make a meal out of if you want) and just enjoy the atmosphere. The food that is on offer from the small menu is top top quality and really excellent. The wines are always good and it's just a joy...

They have small bites like super fresh shrimp cocktail and french cheese, or takeaway "Paris Train station style baguette sandwiches".
There's a french marché too, if you want to grab some delicious wine, olives, paté, local eggs, french cheese, and more!!
